The men moved from the Lucerne about a month ago, the neighborhood is very quiet again. However, it's NYC and anything random can happen. I hope Rick has a full recovery soon!
Rick was not even near the guy when they crossed paths. It was so random. But I agree with your assessment about the hotels in the neighborhood being used to house the homeless. I had forgotten that. I wonder if any of the doormen saw the incident for there are several on each block.
I also wonder if it is harder now to identify criminals when everyone is wearing a mask although the fellow was dressed with identifiable clothing.
I guess there is a 2,500 reward for information according to posters in the neighborhood.

I would suspect it could be someone from one of the other hotels still housing them in the area. The Belnord or Belleclair or others. Or not even a homeless person. Agreed, it's NYC.
Not unbelievable at all. This type of attack is a gang initiation and has happened to several friends of mine over the past few year and one of the attackers have ever been caught. I honestly didn’t know it was a “thing” that was still happening here until the Moranis attack.
It just seems like there are so many cameras that they could have practically followed the perp home. I do not think it was gang related... more like mental illness...but then I guess I can only speculate. Even though he had a mask the upper part of his face seems identifiable.
He likes to randomly punch people all over NYC. This time, he committed a felony because it was someone over 65. Given his history, he will probably get about 15 years in prison for this.
