Thanks for compiling this!

Technically, West Side Story and Girl From the north Country wouldn't belong on this list because they already had their official openings in the 2019-2020 season - it was only their Tony eligibility that was pushed back. Unless this list is designed to cover Tony eligibility, in which case Christmas Carol and American Utopia wouldn't be on the list.

Id be shocked if SIX didn't return. Their pre-Bway tour and Pre-opening sales seemed to be very strong.

I'm technically doing this for Tony eligibility (since that's what I consider part of a "season"2021 Broadway Season (for now), but also felt that A Christmas Carol and American Utopia should've been included as "other things to look forward to" so it makes sense in my mind 🤷🏻‍♀️. And I guess American Utopia wasn't really eligible for Tonys last year anyway

Seeing the mention of 1776, I recall hearing that it would be a genderbent production at first, but I never found anything else on that. Did I hear wrong, or is it indeed supposed to be primarily women this time?

Here's an article with the cast of the revival, with all of the cast either identifying as female or nonbinary.

Yes, this is indeed that version of 1776, directed by Diane Paulus. Roundabout has the cast listed at the below link:

Yeah, I actually just set out to see about that and saw the cast.

I’m pretty surprised at the lack of big names involved, and that they’re keeping the two female roles as women, as I would’ve guessed they’d have men perform the parts if they genderbent all the male characters.

Anyway, even though I believe it’s not explicitly confirmed at this time, I’m super excited for Company, as I love that show, the cast and creative team look excellent and I had tickets to see it literally one day after Broadway closed, so I’m still pretty salty over coming that close and missing it.

The proposed gradual re-opening of Broadway will force most of these Fall 2021 openings to get pushed again to the Spring. Time will tell.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Let us not forget the FUNNY GIRL revival which Rosie O’ Donnell insists will be opening as soon as Broadway reopens (last summer she was predicting this coming summer).

Do we the think THE MINUTES will still come back after the Armie Hammer cannibalism scandal?

The Minutes will be coming back March 2022 and I'm sure he will have found more lucrative opportunities by then. It's not illegal to think about cannibalism. Like all scandals with fake text messages and lack of anything criminal, it will disappear quickly.

Oh please...last summer EVERYONE (except for Hogan/ryhog) thought that Broadway would be back this Summer 2021.  Why are you singling out Rosie O'Donnell?

I really hope that some “fun” new things are going to be announced. It still seems like everything announced as opening is dark and depressing.

Geez, who peed in your Coco Puffs today ?

I'm not 'singling' her out. I'm reporting what she said during an interview last summer - the Broadway revival of 'Funny Girl' was definitely happening and she was costarring as Brice's mother. She said it would open as soon as it was safe to come back to the theater, which she believed would be a year from then (making it this summer). The focus of this topic is what's scheduled for 2021-22, and I reminded everyone of 'FUNNY GIRL'. The focus isn't on when B'way returns - there are other threads for that.

I don't know when Company will (hopefully!) re-open,but it is anything BUT dark and depressing!

Well “Company” isn’t one of the new shows that’s been announced, that I was referring to.

We have to also include Thoughts of a Colored Man

They certainly seem to be teasing the idea of bringing Jersey Boys back from Off Broadway, and that could fulfill the fun marker - it is exactly the type of show that could bring in bridge and tunnel money, which is what the industry will need to live off of for a bit until everyone becomes more comfortable with travel. Good timing for a revival of The Sound of Music as well.

I think when things were announced it was during the BLM stuff etc so it all made sense, but now, with this quarantine going on for much longer than expected, I think people are going to want some fluff instead of thinker pieces? At least I know I do!

It wasn't due to Black Lives Matter protests, Thoughts of a Colored Man is brilliant and was critically acclaimed in Syracuse in 2019. A lot of people are looking to be challenged at the theater, not just sit through some comfortable fluff show they've seen a thousand times.

Well you can twist my words however you’d like. But I’m sure it coming to BroadwAy and the announcement at that time had something to do with it
