Hey Everyone, I'm new to this board, even though I have been reading for the past couple of weeks. Well, I'm currently in a production of Lil Abner and just wanted to know what everyone thought of this musical and has anyone else seen it or been in it? It seems like a weird, yet funny show. Any feed back?
In some ways VERY dated ( Sadie Hawkins Ketchin a Huzband) But the political satire is still relevant ( what's good for General Bulmoose....) And I've always liked Past My Prime. Kind of a funn show if not a particularly brilliant one!
Aw, I love Li'l Abner. Especially "Put 'Em Back". The whole show's so cute, and the movie was...well...the movie was interesting. :)
Anyone else think Sadie Mae (sp?) looks somewhat like Marcia Gay Harden?

I saw L'IL ABNER a few years ago at City Center's ENCORES! I loved it. The score is great ant the cast was top notch: Burke Moses and Alice Ripley. It's a silly, but great show.

I think it will be fun. I got the part of Earthquake McGoon, which is like Abner's rival. And yes, "Put Em Back" is one of the best numbers, as well as "Jubilation T. Cornpone".
Instead of reviving My Fair Lady every 5 years & Man of la Mancha every other year, this is a show that deserves to be revived. It is great starting with the Overture thru the wholse score
My friend use to think it was Jubilation T. CornPORN haha.
O and it's Daisy Mae, Not Sadie.
Ye-as but Daisie Mae & the other wimmen folk participate in the Sadie Hawkins Day Race. Its a major element of the show.
Sorry, misunderstood the post.

Let's see...a hunk for a leading man, a curvaceous blonde leading lady, a go-go girl, an actress who walks around with a baby pig in her arms, six body builders, a character named Apassionata Von Climax... What's not to like about Li'l Abner?
It's a delightful show that unfortunately is usually forgotten other than by the ocassional high school production. It's great for those in NYC who could get to the Encores production, but sucks for the rest of us who can't buy a subscription and fly out there to try and catch these gems that we never get to see. I wish they were still recording these concerts.
*hits self on the head and sings 'I git kinda tired of runnin' from Daisy Mae'* Sorry. Moment of dyslexia.
