What a beautiful celebration ceremony. That this is considered a “controversy” is utterly shocking. The only ones who have anything to be ashamed of are the Archdiocese of New York.
This just shows how much work is left to do, and why giving custom to the work of campaigning transphobes is probably not a good idea.
Referring to the deceased as a "whore" and making out in the cathedral is probably not a good way to get your point across. Whether it is at the White House or elsewhere, such disrespectful behaviors do more harm than good.
A whore and a Saint. That’s part of why the pushback was so big: the Catholic church stomps down hard on folk saints, especially countercultural ones linked to gang trades or sex work.
From what I have read about her, she was an atheist and found the Catholic Church troubling. So why did they decide to have the services at St. Pat's? Was some kind of "point" trying to be made?
There’s nothing “disrespectful” about being a whore, or making out. That’s the point. Nothing sinful, nothing wrong, nothing sacrilegious about anything anyone did at that ceremony. Again, that’s the point. It’s all just a load of bogus decorum based on nothing.
If Cecilia was baptised into the Catholic Church, she is one of them. The church is the people. Her own atheism is completely irrelevant in deciding whether she is entitled to a funeral. A true believer would forgive her for being “wrong” or leave it to God to judge.
Also of course the church as an institution has some nerve considering THIS as bad behaviour.
Beyoncé is not an ally. Actions speak louder than words, Mrs. Carter. #Dubai #$$$

St. Patrick's performed a "Mass of Reparation" after the Cecillia funeral service because they were so freaked out about impurities that the sanctuary was subjected to by honoring a trans activist. That particular mass is a ritual that is usually reserved for public acknowledgements of shame for clerical sexual abuse, etc. Cardinal Dolan is full tilt Steve Bannon "defense of Christendom" nuttiness as opposed to the forward thinking Pope who is pretty progressive except for reproductive rights.
