Our touring company of Hairspray went to the press opening for Jeff Calhoun's/Deaf West's Big River last night. It had a limited run this year in NYC. Happy to report it is still one of the best nights at the theatre I've ever spent in my life. It's an amazing production. Gwen Stewart, Michael McElroy and Melissa Van Der Schyff's singing is glorious. The whole show is glorius. Their company is coming to see Hairspray tonight. Updated On: 6/15/04 at 09:46 PM

Very cool...Jim, what time is your curtain?
I am seeing it on Father's Day in SF...can't wait...It looks really good.
I'm going the same day as Pride. Hopefully that means it's a good thing that I'm cramming two fun things in the same day, and not overwhelming.
Our curtain is at 8:00 pm Tuesday though Saturdays, 2:00 matinees on Wed, Sat and Sun
Big River has the same schedule.
I saw Hairspray at the Golden Gate last Wed. It was a lot of fun. The girl who played Tracey had a great voice. Bruce Vilanch also did a good job. Not quite the broadway show, but what is? It was a lot of fun.

ha ha ha ha.
If I am still stuck in TX, Hairspray will be recievinga visit from me in Houston or San Antonio..if not both!
I wish I could have caught this BIG RIVER :-/Bleh.
wait wait wait, someone else mentioned san antonio here on the bww message board. why?
I'm looking forward to seeing this production of Big River in Atlanta in August.
I think Big River is going to Dallas right after they close in San Francisco in July.

I got free tickets on monday, you're absolutely right Jim it was incredible!!!
Too bad they (Big River) weren't allowed to perform at the Tonys.
BwayTheatre11 - If I'm still with Hairspray in June of 2005, it would mean one of two things:
#1 - Hairspray is paying me millions of dollars to stay on board because they realize I AM the glue. LOL - or
#2 - I'm a great big loser with no other job offers.
Actually, I plan to stay with Hairspray as long as possible. When you're as old as me, you learn to appreciate and honor a great job that 10,000 other people are standing in line for.

This is the show that signs everything, yes? I was so excited when I saw that on the Tony's!!!! That is my dream... To interpret on Broadway. I hope someday I get there. I know I will never get to Broadway any other way, considering you have to be the best of the best. But signing I LOVE so hopefully someday. I want to see the show so bad. Could someone give me a run down of the story??

how long is it in San Francisco? I really want to see it, as do some of my friends, but we are in summer stock right now and aren't sure what our schedules look like. Hopefully we'll get a free night or take an afternoon when we're not rehearsing and see the show.
