I just finally saw Hairspray in Toronto after two years of listening to the CD non-stop.
Can someone tell me where all of the extra bits of music came from? In particular, the extra verses for "Timeless to Me" that were not part of the soundtrack.
Were they in the original show? Added later? Anyone know?
MARC!!
extra verses? I don't remember any on the cd. I'll have to take another listen.

isnt it rather obvious? cuts were made to accomodate the music on the cd.
I know of no cuts made to "Timeless" for the cd. However, there are "bits" in the show that are not on the cd, as would be expected; bits are bits, not songs.
Ozboy - What's the point?
The point: you don't remember them on the cd because they aren't on it. Thats what he was asking - why they are in the show but not on cd.
They might not be able to fit it on the cd and i always thought it was kinda cool when people do that cause it's kinda a suprise since you probally memorized the cd and then you hear some new verses (i made that reason up but whatever)
I'm guessing you're probably refering to the "Shabat Shalom" verse in "Timeless To Me", the "Good Mornigh Baltimore" reprise that Tracy and Inez sing together, the Dynamites' riff being placed after the last "Go mama go go go!" to make a scene change, and Velma's reprise of "Miss Baltimore Crabs".
They are part of the original production when it official opened on Broadway.
As for them not being on the CD that way, ask Marc Shaiman. I'm sure he knows
when making the record, I tried to consider what makes for the best listening experience with the visual no longer part of the equation
also, it's fun to leave some surprises (like the TIMELESS reprise) for the actual live experience Marc

I can't wait until June 2005 when Hairspray is in Cleveland! I did not even know there was a Timeless to Me reprise.
