Long story, but I need to know if this was a movie first, or if the musical is in any way, shape or form based on something else? I thought it was a film.

The movie was based on the novel by Oscar Hijuelos - not sure if the musical is drawn from the film or the book. Updated On: 3/3/05 at 02:27 PM

I believe that the novel won the Pulitzer Prize. You should pick it up if you have the chance; it's excellent.

Not a movie that needs a stage mounting, but that's my opinion.

Sounds like a great cast! Any "buzz" on this show yet, Margo? I really loved the book and movie. Hope they do a good job translating it to the stage. I think it has a lot of potential as a Broadway musical.

I loved the movie, and I've got the book on my reading list. I have high hopes for the show.

I haven't heard anything. I have high hopes for it, though.
