"Side Show Tony nominee Emily Skinner will be part of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts' upcoming production of Mame.
A spokesperson for the Kennedy Center confirmed that Skinner will play Agnes Gooch in the Jerry Herman musical, which begins performances at the D.C. theatre Feb. 18, 2006. Skinner joins the previously reported Christine Baranski (as Mame) and Max von Essen (as Patrick Dennis); no other casting has been announced.
Eric Schaeffer will direct the Herman musical about the free-spirited Mame Dennis, her boozy friend Vera Charles and Mame's young nephew Patrick. The limited engagement will run through March 26 at the Eisenhower Theater."

When I first saw the title of the article on Playbill I thought that she was cast as MAME. Silly me forgot that Christine will be playing it. Sounds like it'll be great. Could this be a possible Broadway transfer? Whatever happened to all the talk of Hello Dolly, Mame and La Cage Aux Folles all making it to Broadway within like 5 years or something?
Thanks, Margo.
I guess the only question left is who will play Vera?
I'm hoping for a Broadway transfer (a la ON GOLDEN POND).

I'm guessing the Vera casting will be announced before Nov. 7th. How are they going to find someone bitchier than Baranski?
And if the reviews are good and Baranski doesn't have another lame sitcom commitment, I imagine there's a chance this could transfer to Broadway. I know Herman is really pushing for a new Broadway production of it (and the rest of his shows).
It's too bad Agnes isn't a siamese twin :/, then Ripley could have headed up the other half...
Bitchier than Baranski?
Harriet Harris, anyone?

Oooh. I ADORE Harris! Sign her up.
Hmm, maybe they'll call in Alice when Emily pulls out last minute.
:)
Harris would be DIVINE.
I think Baranski would make a better Vera than Mame.

I know it would never happen, but wouldn't it be great if Harris and Baranski could trade roles every now and then? I could see both of them being great at either part.
As much as I love Harris (and I do love Harris), I still think Joanna Gleason would make a magnificent Vera. That deadpan delivery!
Oh yes, robbie, that would be fabulous too!!
oh my god...Barranski and Gleason could be reunited...they can discuss the good old days when they were both in Nick & Nora!!!! LOL
I would love to see Bette Midler as Mame and Baranski as Vera.
Does anyone else think that photo on Playbill is totally unflattering?
Yeah, it's not the best picture. It's from Wall-to-Wall Sondheim, I believe.

How about Cybill Shepherd as Vera? Anyone? Anyone? LOL
Actually I'd like to see Swoosie Kurtz as Vera.
Is that from Wall-to-Wall? Because she's worn that outfit in so many things I've seen, it's hard to tell.
As much as I love Joanna...I don't see her as Vera. She definitely has the attitude for it, but not the voice.
Her voice is so smooth and beautiful.
Remember what Mame says: "Each time that a critic has written that your voice is the voice of a frog..."
I don't even think that Gleason could fake that.
Harris is perfect for the role.
I am so there. I was planning on being there anyway, but this makes it even better.
