They're the strangest writing team to me. They write some really good music (Ragtime, Man of No Importance), but then they also write some serious crap (Seussical). Strange. Can't wait to hear about this show.

Seussical's score is crap? What are you thinking?

all i know of "The Glorious Ones" is that it's taking place with a comedia delarte troup.

presumably, another one of their magical musicals, where theater and storytelling are essential plot devices. I love these!

OK...tickets are available...but WHERE is the production?

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

The O'Reilly in Pittsburgh, I think. I saw a sign for the show over summer, and I really want to get tickets. I hope I get home before it closes.

It is at the O'Reilly, at the Pittsburgh Public Theatre. And I am so excited. I've heard one song from it, "I Was Here," sung by Philip Quast on his CD and it is fantastic. Can't waitttt.

I would say that Lucky Stiff is more crap than Seussical, but really all of these is our own opinions. I love Seussical and if you wanna bash me for that, go right ahead. We each have our opinions, lcan't we all just be nice to each other?

I love their more serious work:
Ragtime, Dessa Rose, Man of No Importance

as well as their lighter works:
Once on this Island, Seussical, Lucky stiff, My favourite Year and Anastasia

some have their problems, but all have alot of great moments!

I agree with Rentboy - they are the Jekyll and Hydes of Broadway. Ragtime is beyond great, yet they are also capable of turning out something like My Favorite Year which is.... supply your own negative. I'm hoping for the best with Glorious Ones.

Lucky Stiff has some solid songs. as does Suessical. i honestly don't super HATE any of their scores. i mean, sure, some of them are very "loose" but i'd be excited to hear this show.

I believe "Opposite You" is also in the Glorious Ones which can be found on Marin Mazzie and Jason Daniely's duet cd.

Just because something is light doesn't mean it's crap.

That said, I'm REALLY not a fan of My Favorite Year. Bleh.

I don't think its necessarily fair to say that they aren't good composers and song writers. If anything, they are inconsistant given the material presented to them. Overall though, they make up for their less than stellar scores with fanstastic ones like Dessa Rose and Ragtime.

I'd love to hear Dessa Rose some day - if only I could afford to buy it! Last I looked they were asking thirty bucks for it.
