If my memory serves me, there was an issue with the rear mezzanine seats and not being able to see the upper portion of the sets?
(I know there was a thread dealing with this, but I can't seem to find it...)
Should I be avoiding the rear mezz if at all possible, or are the seats just as good as anywhere else? Are there any particular sections that I should avoid?
I second jaystarr. There is no problem with rear mezz for view. I sat there and loved it! It's the rear orchestra that has a problem because of the mezz overhang.
The cheap rear mezz tickets to August are probably one of the best deals going on Broadway right now.

LIVE THAT LESSON!!!!!!
though I will say that I did have problem hearing the dialogue specially at the end when I sat at the REAR MEZZ... but it could just be me? I should have gotten an earing -aide..before the show...I'm serious...
Thanks thibodeaux, but I'd rather just see the show and not spend a fortune for a ticket. Plus, in looking at the set, I think I'd prefer the mezzanine.
I managed to get rear mezz tickets ($26.50), Row A, seats 4 and 5, for tonight's show about an hour and a half before the performance, and had a great view. It really is one of the best deals on broadway.
I will back up all these people and say the Mezz is great. You can see and hear everything. I was more on the side though so at one point I missed a tad of it in the dinning room. Other than that you will not miss anything.
So...go see it!
I also got tickets the day of.

I sat in row M, right, 3 seats off the aisle and had a perfect view. While I was there, I went and sat in the last four rows of the orchestra during intermissions and after the show. You can't see the top of the seat from these seats and they were actually all empty the day I went. Not sure if they are just not selling them but nobody was sitting in them.
