Taylor's "dream", as he has stated many times, is to be able to be a working musician, entertain people and make enough money to raise a family. He said this on his promotional tour for his book, Heart Full of Soul.

Yes, I suspect the publicity and money is one of the reason's he's doing it. In addition to that, accepting this perhaps once in a lifetime opportunity to star on Broadway is something he couldn't possibly turn down. Why would he want to broaden his fan base and expose himself to a new base of people? What's wrong with that? Where is it written that we can only do one thing in life? He said he wants to dabble in acting as well as playing music. Don't pigeonhole him. That's not fair.

He has a new CD and DVD coming out in the Fall. SMART TAYLOR.

I give the guy full credit for doing something I (and I bet all of us) have never done - get a star role in a Broadway show. Good going, baby.

Spamalot was packed when I saw it two weeks ago (Clay was no longer in it - but looks like he did indeed make a difference.)

Clay's last night was May 4th. There has been a definite drop since he left the show.

So back on topic...

I saw Taylor Hicks as Teen Angel on Wednesday night and thought he was pretty good vocally. They give him a hand mic to sing the song, which is an odd choice. He shakes his butt a lot. He's not playing Teen Angel - he's playing Taylor Hicks. His awkward harmonica solo is kind of weird. I miss Stephen Buntrock.

Matt Hydzik was on as Danny, though, and he's fantastic. If you get a chance to see him, go.

"I hope Taylor doesn't skip 50+ shows like Fantasia did. At least with Taylor they can't get a refund if he doesn't show up."

Fantasia explains why she missed shows because of illness
Taken from Sister To Sister Magazine.

Fantasia had a persistent cough during her stint in The Color Purple on Broadway. Although she had complained about her throat while on Broadway, no one suggested serious treatment. Doctors in New York thought she had strep throat and sinus infections and put her on antibiotics. Finally, she got tired of antibiotics and went to see one of "American Idol" doctors. Who works on many celebrities. The doctor saw a cyst on her vocal chords! Fantasia went on with her plans to travel to Africa, but had to come back for emergency surgery after a week. They thought it was a little growth on one side of her vocal chords that could be removed easily, and that she could sing again in three days. But after closer examination, the doctors discovered the biggest cyst they'd ever seen. Not only that, Fantasia had broken a blood vessel. Thankfully, the cyst was benign and they removed it. Fantasia couldn't talk for six weeks! But she's since gotten clearance from her doctor and is back in the studio.

Shockingly bad!

A young actress with Noel coward after a dreadful opening night performance said to him 'Well, i knew my lines backwards this morning!'' Noels fast reply was ''Yes dear, and thats exactly how you said them tonight'!'

I saw the show tonight and I'm still unimpressed with Hicks.

People shouldn't be surprised that the Weisslers brought on Taylor Hicks. After all, this is the same team that cast... aaack... Rosie O'Donnell as "Rizzo" years ago.

"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

The Weisslers aren't producing this production.

No change in the box office with Taylor Hicks' first two weeks of performing in Grease. In fact, last weeks tally took a slight dip. It will be interesting to see if his casting makes a difference in ticket sales.
