Only a seat is not guaranteed.

If you have ever been to BB Kings, they only have a certain number of tables. You dont have to sit at a table.

The doors open at 6PM- If you feel like sitting at a table, it is suggested that you get there when the doors open.

Curious--- did anyone else from the boards go tonight?

The show was amazing !!! Jonathan Whitton was incredible !!! (Even with the red wig- (they were not allowed to use the blonde one, or mention (depsite a few slips) the name "Hedwig" during the entire show. Louise Stewart played Yitzhak, and has an incredible set of pipes !!!

This show really needs to be back SOMEWHERE in NYC !!!

why couldn't he wear a blonde wig or say "hedwig"?

<< why couldn't he wear a blonde wig or say "hedwig"? >>

"Legal Reasons" was all that he said (in character, which was pretty funny) --- One time he slipped up, he said "you people didnt hear that, because you are too drunk anyway") -- :))

His voice is really amazing, and the band was great. His "Origin Of Love" was one of the best that I have heard.

Hmmm, how weird...I wonder why that had to be done?
I love Hedwig, I'd love to see a full production return to NYC

Hedwig was amazing last night! Testing and I had a blast. Even with the legal restrictions, it was still a really amazing experience. Favorite Hedwig moment from the evening (besides Hedwig jumping on our table shaking her ass in Testing's face...ha ha ha!) was when she knocked over another table after a song that had a lit candle. Hedwig then goes "Don't worry darlings, the candle is electric...oh wait, no it isn't. Someone should really take care of that." Loved it! And Jonathan Whitton was really exceptional.

As for the legal restrictions, I work for a Broadway publishing company (not the one that owns Hedwig) and asked around as to what the reasons may have been for the restrictions. More than likely, because they did not do the entire show word for word, they probably were only given rights to do an adaptation and do so under the restrictions that Hedwig mentioned last night.

The show needs to come back in all its full glory!

All the right people? Hm.

Well, honestly, if or when they do bring it back, would be perfectly happy with Jonathan Whitton taking on the role full time. He, once again, was breathtaking as Hedwig. Would love to see what he could do with the whole show.

I really disagree about Jonathan Whitton as Hedwig.

Saw this same legal "highlights" version of Hedwig that he did for Halloween this year...and since it was a one night thing, I didn't see a point in reviewing him (which would mainly be a warning for Hedwig fans to stay away!) In fact, it was so painful that my escort couldn't take it anymore and waited outside. Out of my deep affection for the music, I stayed just through the last bars--which was even a challenge for me.

If anyone would like me to go into details, I can, but to summarize, it was a completely self-indulgent performance that belonged in his bedroom and no where near a paying audience. Alarmingly unprofessional performance--and a terrible introduction for Hedwig newbees. After seeing many different Hedwigs and productions over the years, I wouldn't even put this version at the bottom of my list--as it would be an insult to associate it with all those other fine performers. No wonder he can't get the license to perform the show!

As I said before, out of kindness for a young performer, I didn't have any intention of reviewing him. But now that I see it brought up here--I really feel I must say something about my experience so people don't waste their time or money if Jonathan Whitton's bootleg version pops up again. I wish someone had warned me.

Think about it- if one person were to play Hedwig in a broadway revival/premier who should do it- and that will answer your question.

If it's not John Cameron Mitchell, I ain't interested.

Rumor is he's been interested in doing it for a while.. Wanted it to happen for the ill-fated revival that was supposed to happen at The Zipper some time back, but didn't those crazy producers want to cast it through that wacky hotel open call??

" the crowd absolutely LOVED him !!! "

Yes, and there are also crowds that love dog fighting and bear baiting.

I must say the Halloween crowd was not nearly as enthusiastic as the audience you are describing was in attendance last night.

And, just for the record, I have enjoyed many interpretations of Hedwig over the years. Besides the Jane Street Hedwigs, have loved a few of the regional productions, especially Jeff Skowron in Columbus and Anthony Rapp's mini-tour. Not just another JCM elitist. Open to other ideas.

Jeez--- lighten up.... this is ENTERTAINMENT-- we are not debating Poverty and/or worldwide hunger here.

I was only commenting on what WE saw. If you didnt like him, fine. You would think he did something to you personally. Its a show. I am sure you have enjoyed numerous versions/interpretations of "Hedwig"- Did I miss where someone was disputing that?

A ton of people (including myself) have seen numerous people/productions.

It deserves to be seen !!!

Lets try and enjoy the brilliance (at least in my opinion) of the show.

Just as I feared, I was terribly underwhelmed by this performance. Jonathan Whitton did what I like to call 'elphabize' the role. He did all these unnecessary riffs in all of the songs (which you could barely hear because the band was so loud). He played the role too stereotypically 'drag queen'. Hedwig is NOT just a bitchy queen. She has more depth than that. What I like about John Cameron Mitchell is that as Hedwig, I thought of him as a human being-not just a transvestite. The acting was also very poor, and he really didn't project any kind of emotion at all. I also thought the whole 'I can't say my own name or wear a blonde wig because of copyright infringement' was very tacky and bitchy. Though admittedly, I was shocked by the red wig!

I did like Yitzhak. The girl had a very nice belty rocker voice for the role.

I thought the lead singer of the opening band (Ziggy Starlir and the Spiders from Venus) would have made a better Hedwig.

I ADORE Hedwig and am sad to say I was very disappointed seeing it live for my first time. Yes, I am extremeley partial to JCM, but this performance was just totally lackluster and unfeeling. They need to cast someone who has a more raw voice, and can actually portray human emotions.

I totally respect your opinion, but one thing I will say is that you didnt REALLY see it live for the first time last night. It was basically stripped down, in a sort of "concert" format. The "REAL" live show is so much different, and totally amazing.

I really didn't see it as bitchy. I more so viewed it as a way to make fun of the situation. If it wasn't addressed, I know I would have been wondering what was up with the red wig as well as why he was skirting around the name Hedwig.

He had to say something, or the entire show everyone would have been wondering (not to mention, talking) about the wig, and the fact that the name "Hedwig" was not being mentioned.

Think he was just trying to make light of a tricky situation.
