red-i'm sure mama wasn't encouraging you to wear a wig or ladie glasses? But she may if the $$ came with it.
And Bobby, if you only 'think' your mother has issues after all she's been through, i'll hook u up with my therapist. Of course the woman has issues.

Okay, now here's my genuine question to the gays on this board:
In my college, it's Coming Out Week, so there's lots of self-affirming and political slogans written in chalk on the paths. Obviously, these chalkings are going to deal with sex. But what exactly is the point of writing "VAGINA" in 3-foot letters? (And that's one of the nicer ones, to be honest.)
I'm asking because I know some people in Wesleyan, an extremely liberal college where chalkings got banned last year because certain gay rights chalkings were turning extremely obscene and personal. There was a huge uproar about how this was oppressive, homophobic, etc. But where's the line between obscenity and affirmation of one's sexuality? I think it would be just as easy (and far less accepted) for a bunch of straight frat boys to write "VAGINA" on the sidewalk, and just about as meaningful. Am I just being prudish?

Posted: 10/18/04 at 4:10pmOh she has lots of issues...and it would do her good to go talk to someone....I meant I think my mom might be gay. She would NEVER in a million years act on it. She is also of the mindset that if you go talk to a therapist, your crazy.

If I saw a 3' vagina anywhere (even just the words), i'd run for the hills.
Sounds like your mama got bubkas (zilch) from the karma gods Bobby.
Rath-your post reminds me of the chilling 'Twilight of the Gods'
This group must be crazy if I feel normal.

I always knew I was (around the age of 5), but I didn't know what the name of it was. I also thought I was the only person in the world to feel this way.
When I finally told my family, my mom said she knew I didn't choose to be this way.
When I spoke with my sister about this same issue she asked if I had the opportunity to change, would I. I said, "absolutely not". I'm happy the way I am.
MattG, When I was in college I had a conversation with my roommate about homosexuality and I mentioned that I thought it was nature's way of controlling the population as well.

Posted: 10/18/04 at 6:34pmPLUM - speaking ONLY for myself, I think you have a valid point. I'm not entirely comfortable with that type of thing. And it has nothing to do with gay or straight, it simply has to do with decorum or what's appropriate in a public setting.

Posted: 10/22/04 at 5:39pmJacob sweetie--you just mad a big faux-pas. The gays DON'T like deadlines, honey. We have gay time, which means we'll get there/finish it/call/write/e-mail when we're damn good and ready, because we're better educated, wittier and simply dress nicer than all you heteros. Show THAT to your class!

Posted: 10/22/04 at 5:41pmI don't belive it is a choice. I didn't choose to be gay. And in the words of Augusten Burroughs (Who I just saw last night at a reading here in Denver)....."I do not believe it is a choice. If it is, then I can talk YOU into it!"

re: the big-ass VAGINA issue.
I don't have a problem with it. Vagina is not a 'dirty' word...nor should it ever be considered one. And there is nothing wrong with being sex-positive as well as queer-positive. Now 'Suck my d*ck' or 'Toss one up my sh*tter' are offensive and really shouldn't be chalked.
But THEN we get into the whole 'Why do you care whose d*ck I suck' which is very in your face and borderline obscene. But it does serve a point.
I find it's not so easy.
and...jacob...maybe you should leave off this post. I think it's actually perfectly valid for high schoolers to see it...but your teacher may not think so!
