ABC Renews 'American Crime' for 3rd season

Well, damn, color me surprised. ABC renewed American Crime for a third season. Given the modest ratings and the large cast, I assumed it wouldn't be back. Nice to see a network play the long game.

And, no, this isn't the OJ one.

(BTW, I know we had a thread for this show on here. I tried searching for American Crime via BWW's search function and via Google and nothing came up. One way you could get more traffic, Rob, is to, ya know, have a search function that actually...functions. Just a thought.)

I'm not surprised. Shondaland may bring the ratings, but this is their prestige show.

American Crime is now the only show I watch on network television (and well deserved). I'm thrilled! And as per Shonda Rhimes' new show, its another hour I can ignore. Pretty devastated that Nashville was cancelled. One of my favorite guilty pleasures.

American Crime is OUTSTANDING television and I am thrilled that it was renewed. Can't wait to see what Season 3 has in store for us.

Nashville, like Revenge, was amazing when it first got off the ground but has been steadily declining. Not surprised to see it chopped.

Nashville has been my guilty pleasure too but what really hurts is it was announced that Herskovitz/Zwick would be the new showrunners should it be renewed- t he men behind my all time fave domestic dramas thirtysomething, My So-Called Life and Once and Again. I was eager to see what they did with it. Unfortunately they have a development deal with abc but their pilots aren't getting picked up--no surprise as their shows always get good reviews and low numbers for ABC (though thirtysomething had its moment in the zeitgeist, My So Called Life didn't until after it was canceled and MTV the Aires it)

But yaye AC!

I think they should at least let Nashville have a proper ending. I read today that the show is shopping for another network.

Is it too much to hope that now that Connie Britton is free she could headline that revival of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas that keeps getting rumored.

Nashville is actively being shopped around to other networks/platforms. I'm actually hopeful it'll get picked up by one of them.

I hope Connie Britton is released so she can get a job in an actual good show that is worthy of her unparalleled talent. I'd love to see her on stage, has she even done theatre?

Britton really is the anchor of Nashville and as much as I like the show it felt like many of the characters needed to get over themselves. I think it could have been the shows downfall. It felt like the characters were having the same issues and problems over and over again and many of them were not that likeable.

Agreed! After the wonderful Friday Night Lights, it kinda bummed me out that she was stuck in such an...unsubtle show. But, I guess ABC has proven there's still a hunger for evening soap operas out there.
