Patti LuPone must now give someone an enema in every show that she does. It's the new rule.
"I've been waiting for this season to feel cohesive for me. This episode finally did it."
Cohesive? Really? This season is a mess. It's all over the place. Too many characters, too little character development, and too many story lines. ASYLUM was leagues above this. I'm still a fan of the show and will continue to watch, but, for me, this season has been a big disappointment. Such a wasted opportunity with this cast.
I do agree that Asylum was yards better than Coven has been, Luscious. And I do agree with your overall assessment of Coven. But I did feel that this week's episode put Coven on track, and the train seems to finally be leaving the station, for me anyway. While not where I'd like it to be as a whole, I'm hoping things will get better and stay better.
I was kind of floored that Entertainment Weekly's cover picture, last week, totally blew the surprise as to what was in the cardboard box.
I honestly never considered that it would LITERALLY be what would happen on the show. I just thought it was a creative shoot.

Yeah, and then the article actually spelled it out. At least they usually put a spoiler warning, but for their article there wasn't (I guess because the spoiler was Raddy on the cover?)
I am glad I didn't read it. It was a great laugh.
I agree that ASYLUM was more cohesive, but I'm honestly enjoying COVEN more than last season. By this point in the season, ASYLUM was basically flailing about in pointless misery and gruesomeness ("For the love of God, someone kill Shelley!!") that lead to absolutely nothing. I really think this show should have shorter seasons to pull the reins in on Ryan Murphy, because we always end up with a meandering mess by mid-season, and many of the major plot points don't get resolved with much satisfaction. The "blah" ending we got for Dr. Arden and the pathetic whimper with which they dispatched Sister Jude's story the last season were pretty disappointing. ASYLUM had one single satisfying story arc, and that was Bloody Face/Jr. and Lana.
By contrast with ASYLUM's aimless bleakness, COVEN is a campy but enjoyable mess of a ride, and this was my favorite episode of the season so far.

kind of unrelated, but I met Jessica Lange's daughter last night. She's the daughter of Jessica and Mikhail Baryshnikov. I always knew she lived in my city. She's a dancer and was performing in the theater I work at. She looks so much like both her parents. I wanted to shake her and yell, "FIONA GIVES ME LIFE!!!" But I've learned to control those urges.
^^Cheese and RICE. Talk about a pedigree.

I mean, Misty!
Just so great.
So, why is Misty's skin perfect after burning, but Myrtle looks a hot leathery mess?
i believe that myrtle spent not enough time in the mud.

****MAJOR SPOILERS******
I think they went a little too big by involving an actual corporation, but why not, I guess?
I have to say I loved Patti LuPone in this episode. Myldred was pretty crazy throughout and I kinda was a sucker for it. I also can't get enough of Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett (of course Murphy decided to have a masacre involving the black witches, who apparently were too weak to protect themselves), and Jessica Lange. There are so many plot holes involving Queenie's power that I just have to go with it at this point; Sidibe is still a terrible actress, but her death was pretty cool.
You might want to put a spoiler alert on that, for folks who haven't seen the episode yet...
Thanks, Theatrediva. I honestly forgot. Fixed now.
I was actually really into this episode--I admit part of that is because it was scripted by Tim Minear who made everything last year come together so well but was demoted by Murphy apparently because too many people found that season too dark... Until the ending.
Ugh. OK so much for Murphy claiming last Summer that after the last school shootout and now that he had a kid, he would avoid gun violence. That actually didn't bug me as much (though would Queenie, after all we've seen her go through, really commit suicide?) But the fact that they used THAT footage and THAT song, and had LaLaurie who apparently could withstand hours of aversion therapy (is it called aversion therapy if it's for the good?) suddenly tear up because of hearing the song, and just the heavy handed nature of it... It felt as heavy handed as Murphy's gay bullying Glee episodes.
SPOILERS:
Queenie didn't commit suicide, did she? She shot herself so Hank would die. Nothing she has ever done to herself has lasted or harmed her. She was shot in the stomach, though. She may have died from that wound. I doubt she's down for the count, though.
And Ray, it's not that the "black witches" couldn't protect themselves, it's that they aren't witches. They practice voodoo. Spells and incantations are needed to protect them. They can't be like Fiona and flick her wrist to make a box bottom drop out.
MYRTLE was OUT OF CONTROL!
Do we really have to put up spoilers after it's aired? I guess that's fair.

You're right--and I got that she did it to kill Hank but for some reason assumed it meant she died too, but as you say that's never been the case before.
Myrtle was great. As much as I really still dislike the ending (though JerseyGirl, I agree with you on your last point--although technically they are "voodoo witches,") I loved every moment with Myrtle, even if the focus on a melon baller seemed a bit obvious (and I admit I didn't really get her gleefull flashback of grinding down their, I assume, limbs?)
