^ I don't think she was ever dead. The potion stops aging and makes you immortal. She was just trapped in that coffin for so many years. A form of punishment for what she did to the witch's lover. That's what I took away anyways.
Brilliant start for the season!
Absolutely loooved it!
Especially Frances Conroy's cameo in the beginning of the episode... thought she was hilarious!
This looks like it's going to be a great season! What a cast!!!!
Maybe I'm crazy but I didn't like the premiere at all. Sure the cast is probably the most exciting to be assembled this fall, and none of them disappointed as actors, but the plotting wasn't there for me.
So much exposition without any mystery. There wasn't a single character in the dark about their abilities or what was going on for the viewer to follow and unwrap the mysteries with him/her.
But judging from the preview for the rest of the season, it's not about what "else" they can do. The premiere set up the characters wonderfully, allowing the rest of the season to focus on the plot and not copious amounts of character development.
I enjoyed it, but it all seemed a little campier and more familiar than I was expecting. But I thought everyone was good (particularly Kathy Bates), and if I've learned anything from the first two seasons it's that I can never guess where it's going to go. So I'm happy to go along for the ride.
I'm just gonna blame the cocaine, but any witch who has ever stepped foot in N'awlins should know that one should NOT saddle up to Marie Laveau's sworn enemy, much less release her from her living crypt.
I really liked it. It feels lighter and in which case based on the first 2 seasons seems like a necessary direction.
And honestly if the season centers around Angela Bassett vs. Kathy Bates, I am in.
"With any hope, working with Jessica Lange this season taught Emma Roberts how to act."
I'll say it from the roof tops until it gets distribution: She is really great in Palo Alto.
Loved it! Thought it was a really good set-up episode! Kathy Bates will win an Emmy. And can not wait for more Francis Conroy! "I'm just mad for plaid." Lol!
Interesting article where Kathy Bates says she wants to return to the stage (!!!!!!) and also that AHS:COVEN is destined for two seasons.

Any series set in New Orleans has a lot going for it right there. Taking a wait and see attitude after the first episode. Like Sleepy Hollow better.
I thought you blocked me. At least you keep saying you did after every post I make & how you've blocked me and you wish you could see what I said but you can't since blocked me.

Are you making naughty comments about me Jordan?
Does it actually physically hurt to be as stupid as you are?
I'm watching the premiere again and Jamie Brewer really should be singled out for some exceptional acting. I'm really happy they brought her back this season.
I think she's wonderfully subtle when they're at DeLaurie's house and you can tell she is almost trying not to feel what happened there

Well, it wouldn't be American Horror Story without the gross race stuff (in the form of Kathy Bates) and gross sexual violation (in the form of that horrible gang-rape scene), but that aside, I couldn't believe how much I enjoyed this episode. It's by far the least infuriating episode of AHS I've ever watched.
Also, because I paid no attention to anything about this season beforehand, I didn't realize that was Denis O'Hare as the butler until I read this thread. I love him so much and I was waiting and waiting for him to appear in the episode and thought his role must not have started yet.

Yeah, I didn't realize that was Denis O'Hare as Riff Raff until after it was all over.
I liked the first episode but I will say:
-Frances Conroy's look was totally ripped off of Mink Stole in Pink Flamingos. Ryan Murphy may call it homage, but he steals a lot of stuff.
-I worry for Ms. Sidibe. Believe me, I'm overweight, so Im not throwing stones, but she literally looks like she is about to pop. I get uncomfortable watching her. Is she going to play the same character in every show? I hope she takes care of herself.
I loved it so much. Ryan Murphy will always be an insanely racist, misogynist Asshole, but give me witches, and I'm in. I liked the fact it was lighter than the previous seasons, but then again, I always thought the haunted mansion story was super tired, and I wasn't into yet another serial killer story last season (though I loved the asylum aspect and Sarah Paulson was glorious). I think the cast is fantastic, and I actually thought they had a lot of chemistry; I particularly loved Sarah Paulson (who has been doing her best work of her career in the past few years) and Jessica Lange. I know it's sacrilege, but I tend to not like Lange in a lot of things, but I love the character she is playing now and how she's playing it.
Bettyboy, I don't mind Sibide's body, I just wish she could act, her line readings are so flat, and her acting is so transparent. I also wish. that Murphy hadn't proved me right and taken each chance he got to depict her as some fat, hungry chick. God, he's awful, and it's a shame she's stuck playing those kinds of roles.
Can't wait for tonight's episode!
This episode was practically a filler episode, apart from explaining how LaLaurie is still alive and showing Marie with her minotaur, but it was still pretty decent. Good opening.
LuPone comes next week!
