After being lukewarm about the first episode I was loving the second. Things seemed to settle down and let the character develop at a natural pace with the plot.
Every line Lange says is a freaking Emmy clip.
I really liked it! The scene where Madame LaLaurie was locked in the coffin was terrifying. They have some messed up stuff going on this season. In the best way possible of course.
perfectly brilliant. I give you Immortality...buried in a coffin. Gave me monkey nerves just imagining what that would be like.

The lynching and coffin scene was thrillingly chilling. I thought it perfectly illustrated the terror in a way that wasn't too gruesome for television, while displaying the way owners viewed slaves as subhuman and devoid of emotion and feeling.
The "gift" of immortality was also perfectly cold and haunting.
Jessica Lange with the chicken during the retelling was spot on perfect... and LaLaurie's "slave" encounter with Queenie did me in.
I didn't like last night's episode. I don't know why. The coffin scene was terrifying, but the rest of it fell flat for me. I don't think the storyline with the Frankenboyfriend is particularly compelling.

Glinda,
As far as Frankenboyfriend goes, I think that plot will develop more nicely, but was used in this episode as merely a device to further cement one girl's carelessness with her powers and spoiled attitude - not to mention her willingness to sell her soul to the devil and show a continued disregard for human life that isn't simply fueled by passion - against another teenage girl's rather grating personality who just can't yet settle into witchcraft and struggles to do the right thing, though makes wrong choices and doesn't seem to have much spine yet, as well as a way to introduce the burned witch to therest of the coven.

This season is two for two with me. I'm not wild about Frankentate, either, but everything else gives me pretty much exactly what I didn't know I needed. I do love all these great actresses (well, mostly all great. I could live without Emma Roberts, but I don't find her as contemptible as I usually do) making these ridiculous characters so real and believable. I never get enough Angela Bassett in my life. I CANNOT BELIEVE SHE IS 55.

Literally just fell out of my chair... I did not know that.
So excited this is back!! I have never loved Lange more since she took on this project, and have forgiven her for stealing Leslie Ann Warren,s oscar! I especially thankful that she is sharing this spotlight with Bassett and Bates. These three sparring has so much potential! Bates is like no other actress, IMO! Her accent alone is delicious!! I've never felt like rooting for such a disgusting character! LaLaurie is quite a character!
It'll be interesting to see what happens with Riff Raff once she becomes a domestic.
I am just not THAT much of an Angela Bassett fan. I love the character she is playing, but I hope it goes further than the go-to Bassett thing. I can't seem to put it into words, but she bugs me. Marie Laveau needs to be AMAZING!
Not interested in Frankentate story yet, but I will say this is the first time I haven't instantly hated Lily Rabe. She usually comes off much older than she actually is. She seems younger in this role. I love all of the students. The hot grease scene grossed me out.
I do not dig the Sarah Paulson having sex with a dude thing. Nope. Sorry.

Hahaha, and it was Serge!
JG2, I'd prefer Alfre Woodard! I imagine Bassett was cast partly because part of the character is supposed to be ageless, and she does look amazing.
Oh, the hot grease thing grossed me out too!
Doodle, totally agreed! She LOOKS the part. She looks fantastic. There's just something she does that I can't put my finger on. It's an "Angela Bassett" thing. lol

Patti seething in the scene in her house.... "Upstaged by ANOTHER actor with Down's Syndrome!"
I love that girl with Down's Syndrome. She's a doll.

I stumbled on a comment somewhere that said someone was gonna die tonight, but they got who it was wrong.
And Zoe is such a moron. I like Taissa Farmiga, but Zoe needs to die next.
But isn't she this season's semi-innocent who needs to witness all the goings-on?
I expect she'll be the innocent who realizes in the end that being innocent is overrated, and becomes the new Supreme...like Cindy Birdsong.
I was so excited to see Ebersole and Winningham! Mad they both died (unless Mare becomes Frankenmom). I suppose both can be featured in flashbacks.
So did Sidibe die?
First of all: like Cindy Birdsong = genius.
Second, so THAT'S who that was! I couldn't figure it out. She was awesome. I thought Ebersole was a little silly/campy. Always great to see her, though. Maybe it was just the hair and costume.
I thought Gabby just hooked up with the minotaur.
Ah...I guess it'll bring her to Bassett's character. I just thought those horns were getting a little threatening.
Now I want LuPone to play Margaret White...a-lot!!
I thought the same thing!!! Maybe this season's musical number can be "When There's No One."
I want her to do "Eve Was Weak" with Jamie Brewer!!!
I freely admit that I applauded when Ebersole and LuPone appeared, all alone in my little room.
The thing with Queenie and the Minotaur was the weirdest thing I have ever seen on television.
