I thought this was a complete 180 from the pilot, suspense wise. The opening scene was just sadistic and disturbing enough to keep from going overboard. I'm guessing there was a lot more evil/murder in that house that we haven't even begun to see yet.

Yeah, last night was just people doing horrible, horrible things. Not much in the way of ghosties . . .

QUESTION WITH A SPOILER BUILT IN:

My bf is wondering if Jessica Lange is some sort of ghost. He points out that her clothes are all retro, and she uses words like "Mongoloid." I thought in the first ep that she was just, you know, Southern and weird. But I definitely see his point; she does seem from another time.

Spoiler alert:
Reg I was thinking the same thing. I was thinking that all of the weird characters, Jesica Lange's, her daughter, Tate, the maid, even the burnt guy were ghost or manifestations of the house. I def think Tate is Jessica Lange's character's son that she was talking about...and did you notice when the burnt guy told Dylan that the house plays on your fears that the one girl who said she had a fear of getting cut in half almost gets cut in half by Tate

I am kinda liking this show especially after the second episode. I think the first one was just settng up the story and now that we are set up it is free to go bat sh*t crazy

Violet, "manifestations" is probably a good word, rather than "ghosts."

That opening scene was so upsetting!

Her "don't make me kill you again" comment could also be a clue that she's not quite of this world.

All in all I did think that last night's episode was better, but the horribly perverted take on every bit of sexuality in the episode really skeeved me out.

Well, that line certainly made it clear that Frances C. was not quite of this world.

Of course, we've known that for years.

"And did you notice when the burnt guy told Dylan that the house plays on your fears that the one girl who said she had a fear of getting cut in half almost gets cut in half by Tate"

Actually, I did NOT catch that so I'm glad you wrote that! It's definitely something I'll be looking closely at now.

ALSO, why did Jessica Lange want the daughter to have those cupcakes so badly??

Maybe to get back at Violet's mom for grabbing Addy so rudely by the face (during the pilot)?

"I def think Tate is Jessica Lange's character's son that she was talking about"

Except we saw Ben call Tate's mother to talk about discontinuing his therapy. Of course, JL's son could be inhabiting Tate's body. Or the call could have gone to JL, pretending to be someone she's not, or . . .

I actually think that Jessica Lange and Tate are real, not ghosts. I have a suspicion that Tate is Jessica Lange's grandson. I think he is the child of her "normal" son who disappointed her in another way. Is it possible that the half of the gay couple is Lange's son?

I like how the show feels like so many different shows and seems to pay homage to a lot of horror films. At times it feels like Six Feet Under with shades of dozens of horror films.

Yeah, I don't know that I think either are ghosts, per se. But Constance is so oddly out of time, if you know what I mean.

Constance is completely out of the time period, but I think she is fairly delusional and unstable. I think she's an homage to Blanche Dubois. If Blanche Dubois had male hustlers in her bed, tried to sicken neighbor's children and locked her developmentally disabled daughter in closets. (ala Carrie.)

I agree Constance is totally out of her time period...I still think Tate is her son and the reason she was trying to get Violet to eat the cupcake was because Tate is attracted to her and she is jealous...or because Violet rejected him (yelling at him at the end of the pilot) and she wanted to hurt her for hurting him

I rewatched it and caught a line ***SPOILER*** after the would-be killers are killed where he says they'd better get rid of the bodies "if you want me to keep seeing him"--i.e., Ben as a therapist.

So she could be his mother, the Mrs. Langdon Ben phoned to discuss discontinuing Tate's therapy.

Either way, there's clearly more info to come about who these people (or "people") are.

Who watched this week's episode? I loved it. I feel like the suspense has just been building and building since the pilot. I have no idea where the story is going, and it is quite intriguing!

This week was not as freaky as last week, but a lot went down.

I was never happier to see someone get hit in the head with a shovel.

It's not that I think Ben is blameless, but she was scarier than anything in the house.

I was pretty surprised about the origin of the house. It was interesting to find out what happened to Moria. I love how pieces are slowly starting to come together. I'm still curious about Tate though.

I'm totally hooked on this show. It wasn't scary this week at all, but the story is undeniably intriguing.

Question -- do we think Constance is alive or dead?

Honestly, I'm not even sure if the Harmons are alive at this point. Is Larry real?

I did not see that shovel coming - shocked me.

I was expecting a grave on the ground where Ben kept waking up, but I thought it was going to be where he would be buried at the end of the series (then again, still could be if someone digs up that gazebo, finally freeing Moira...

Was the paper Connie Britton was looking for apartments in from the 80s, too? Can you really get a two-bedroon in LA for 500 a month?

Maybe next week Lily Rabe will get hit in the head with a shovel. Usually when I have to see her on stage, I hope that will happen.

I'd be happy for guest star Jennifer Jason Leigh to take a shovel to the head.

This could be a whole series.

Did anyone notice when they were showing the flashback of the doctor in the basement they were using the theme music from Bram Stoker's Dracula (the Coppola movie)? I know they did it with the Psycho theme in the 2nd episode...and the used another "horror" movie theme in the 1st episode (I forget which one)
