I'm more upset than I thought I would be. I think Adam is much more talented and I do think homophobia had a bit to do with it. That's all.

I just got far too spoiled by last year... re: AMERICAN IDOL re: AMERICAN IDOL

Cook's win last year was so PERFECT. It was the first time where the person I truly loved actually won, and just... the pure joy of that moment was so incredible. And this year I'm just like... this doesn't feel right re: AMERICAN IDOL A wonderful contestant won, but the BEST didn't. And I miss that pure joy that I felt last year.

*goes to watch Cook's win over again to feel better*

Oh speaking of Cook, how BEAUTIFUL was his performance tonight? <3 That song is so heartbreaking, but so immensely gorgeous, and I was SO amazed at his strength for getting up there and doing that so soon all for the sake of the cause.

I don't need a life that's normal. That's way too far away. But something next to normal would be okay. Something next to normal is what I'd like to try. Close enough to normal to get by.

This year's finale was pretty anti-climatic for me, too, compared to last year...but nothing will top last season for me, and all the memories that came from it.

Looking forward to seeing Cook a couple of times this weekend!

To say that homophobia played no part in Adam not winning is just naive. Of course it did. As did his Glam Rock persona and edgier style. You have to take into consideration who's watching and who's voting. That said Adam and Kris were my two favorites from the very beginning (with Allison a close third) so the fact that Kris won really isn't at all upsetting to me. They're both extremely talented in their own right. They'll both have very successful careers. And Adam will never have to sing that hideous No Boundaries song ever again. In addition, he'll be his own man and will be able to "officially" come out if and when he chooses to without having to worry about breaching his AI contract. All in all, Kris winning and Adam not winning is probably the best possible case scenario for both of them. And neither one of them really seemed to care all that much any way.

Homophobia is firing qualified Arabic translators simply because they're gay. Homophobia is voting a constitutional amendment stripping citizens of rights simply because they're gay. Homophobia is NOT voting one contestant over another on reality TV.

I don't recall the "homophobia" rants, when Cook won over Archuleta. If people were homophobic with their voting, why was Adam in the top 2? Wouldn't Danny have been there? This homophobic talk makes no sense to me, at all.

Dear PJ,

Homophobia is alive and well and exists in many places and on many levels. No one is equating the American Idol vote with the more important issues of the day. So, don't go getting your panties in a twist.

I don't want to see a reactionary backlash where HOMOPHOBIA!!!!!!!!!!!!! is screamed from the mountaintops, but it's kind of naive to think it plays no part. I'm not saying it's the deciding factor, but dismissing it as a contributing factor is just willful ignorance.

To be fair, JohnBoy, you seem to relish being in the confounded "These gay complaints don't make no sense to me a'tall!" role. We get it, you don't get it. Perhaps you should recuse yourself from discussions of a gay nature and focus on issues that you are able to understand?

JohnBoy couldn't possibly recuse himself from discussions of a gay nature.

Hmmm, you got me thinking. I'm of the school of thought that the votes don't count, but the producers produce the winners.

Maybe that's why they made Ruben Studdard the winner over Clay Aiken. They didn't want to offend middle America by appearing to be gay friendly. So that could be why they gave the win to Kris.

I'm pretty annoyed that Adam wasn't the winner, even though I know he's already got job offers. He should have won this.

Instead of responding with what you think is glib, Namo, why not just answer my question? Why wasn't it Kris and Danny?

Kris is very good at what he does and is far more marketable. I'd definitely rather listen to his album than Adam's. I'm happy that he won. Something about Adam has always turned me off. Just in terms of music genre, I tend to lean towards Kris's style than Adam's. Not a fan of screeching and screaming and constant high belting, even in musical theatre!

While homophobia may have played a part, I think it has more to do with what is more appealing to the ears, to the eyes. Kris is more appealing in every aspect in my opinion.
