Was the tax the excise tax, with the fed. gov't subtly trying to put an end to "bad things" like drinking?

Well... not really.

The State of Pennsylvania enacted a Tax on the Potato Farmers of Western Pennsylvania--Potatoes were used to make Whiskey.

The Farmers protested VEHEMENTLY--to the point of beating up Tax Collectors--so President Washington called out the Federal Militia to restore order.

This was the first time the President used his authority to call out the Federal Militia to intervene in an issue--but it certainly wouldn't be the last.

William Henry Harrison was the first President to die in Office. The Congress first addressed the Vice President, John Tyler, as "Mr. Acting President."

Were they correct?

I'm not sure I understand the question.

Okay.

After William Henry Harrison passed away while President, and his Vice President addressed Congress, Congress addressed him as "Mr. ACTING President."

Were they adhering to the Constitution by addressing him in that manner?

Was this before or after Tyler was sworn in as Prez?

OKay, I get it. Ignore my last question. I don't know the answer to the question, though.

I've confused you. I'm sorry.

The Constitution states: "In the advent of the death of the President, the Vice-President shall ACT [emphasis mine] as President." No title, no swearing in, no nothing.

So Congress WAS correct when they addressed John Tyler as Mr. ACTING President.

It was TYLER who insisted that he be sworn in as President and be addressed as "Mr. President."

Although this was probably NOT the intent of those who drafted the Constitution, this precedent STUCK--and has remained in place ever since, even though the wording of the Constituion on this issue has not changed.

To M_E... A total guess on this one, but No? Because you are supposed to address them as just Mr. President?

EDIT- Sorry... You already posted the answer.

True, the MC messes me up when I am too worried about finding the right answer that I don't take my time and bypass the correct choices.

For anyone who has already taken the exam - would you say it is important to know what President was associated with every act and tariff and everything? And the exact, correct order of the presidents? I mean I would never attribute the Civil War to say, Jefferson, but little details like Pierce being Prez during the whole Kansas-Nebraska Act ... would they be extremely important to know?
