You're ALL Correct. Even Historians can't agree on the TRUE root cause of the Mexican War.
As pointed out, the main factors were:
1) Polk was looking for an excuse to expand into Mexican Territory;
2) Mexico thought that Texas "owed them money" for damage caused during the Texas War for Independence;
3) Mexico and Texas disagreed over where the EXACT border was between Texas and Mexico;
4) Mexico started the War (they DID attack first--but then IMMEDIATELY retreated)--in an attempt to unite the many hostile political factions in Mexico against a common enemy... the United States.

Posted: 5/2/05 at 10:23pmwasn't the trickle down theory when they gave money to the rich so they would invest? or was it when they gave money to the poor because they would spend it and get money in cirrculation again.

The "trickle-down" Theory was all about helping the WEALTHY, renthead--which they theorized would then indirectly benefit the middle-class and poor as well.
But no, no aid was given to the middle-class and poor directly.

SORRY, Jwei.
The Know Nothing party was an outgrowth of a movement during the 1850s--when TONS of Irish and other immigrants came to America and began "stealing" jobs from Native Americans.
The "Know Nothing" group stated America was for AMERICANS--and wanted ALL immigrants expelled. They were a Secret Society, so if somebody asked you about the group, you were suppossed to answer "I Know Nothing." Hence, the name.
For a brief time, the group actualy grew large enough to nominate their own Candidate for President--I know former President Millard Fillmore ran on the Know Nothing ticket for President--I believe it was in 1856.
