Abercrombie T-Shirts Promote Male Sluttage

While I understand your concern iHeart, I do think Abercrombie t-shirts are the least of my concern when it comes to promotion of "promiscuity" to impressionable young women. Look at TV, teen magazines, their schools, etc. It's never going to change, just get worse. Just because a girl or guy purchases a shirt like the ones in question, doesn't mean they are going to do what it says. If that was the case, damn I'd be in some big trouble. Sometimes they wear it for sexual attention, sometimes for laughs, etc.
You wanna know how many mothers I know who actually promote their girls to wear stuff like this? It's quite sickening actually. But it happens and so, what can you do? nada.

Well I did something. And you CAn do something. We had two of the T-shirts removed from the market. I know it' seems like the least of your worries, but change has to start somewhere.
I guess it's just that I'm not one of those "What can you do?" people. I have to DO something. I believe change can happen in a positive way, if you feel passionately about something and get behind it with all your heart. That's what I try to do.

I think it's great that you put that effort in and got action taken! That's wonderful! I know I CAN do something. I just think that problems need to be attacked from the root, not a single branch of the tree. Yes, each single branch counts, but in the long run, it's not 100% effective. I mean hell I can do a lot of things that could help in the efforts of world peace, global warming, child abuse, etc.... but it's going to take a hell of a lot of other things and people too, and I don't see that happening anytime soon. On this particular issue, start having parents be parents and having more of a say in teens lives, and we may have a start. But still, it's great you stood up for your convictions.

Once I turn 21 and start partying my ass off, you bet your ass I'm gonna wear a shirt, or two, that says something sexual. And my tight jeans that show off that ass.
But, that doesn't mean I'll sleep with anyone that buys me a drink.

There's a Ruehl store opening up at Fashion Show. I can't wait to shop there.
That may not be spelled right, but oh well.

Posted: 1/4/07 at 6:27pmHell, 5 -6 years ago it was still the rich man's store. I mean I went and spent $60 on a pair of sweat pants I just HAD to have, meanwhile, I thought my father had actually died when he found out!! I still have them though, so I guess it was worth it in the end!

And who exactly are you to determine what is for anyone's own good?
Again, legislating morality. Which is highly ironic considering the controversy that surrounded you and your hyper-sexualization on the board just this past August.
It's a shame those threads were deleted, they would have added a nice shading of hypocrisy to the thread.
ETA: Abercrombie is still pretty expensive. These shirts which could probably be made for $12 on cafepress are no doubt going for $60 in store.

Ivan's grandparents have him a $100 gift card to A&F. If he has any change in his wallet, he'll be able to buy a new pair of jeans.
It's definitely not for the poor folk. I didn't start shopping there until I got my first job.

Does Abercrombie really deserve to be such a big deal in this thread?
Anyway, I think "sluttage" may be my new favorite word.

Maybe she had been exposed to a sexually-inapporpriate thong and strayed from the straight and narrow!
Perhaps like many reformist types, she advocates the stopping of fun after she has already had hers?

It's interesting that you keep such close tabs on me. I wonder why that is?
i'm not an oversexualized person. The "controversy" was over some joking posts that I made that were blown out of proportion. As is so often the case, it's fine for people of an older age to joke about sex but younger people are frowned upon for even making jokes.
As i've said before, I'm not pretending that this whole "raunch culture" hasn't effected me. I find myself pandering to that sort of female sexualization at times. But I stop myself, becuase don't think it's right. I also don't think it's my fault, or the fault of the other girls who are affected by it.
I'm not trying to make excuses for my misconstrued comments last August--I realize that it is difficult to tell the tone of any given comment over the Internet and I'm sure I took it too far. But that is not really how I am nd I have shown no evidence since then that it is.

these are dumb, but what i hate the most is all the people who try to dress like theyve just staggered off a porn set in between shoots.
i am not sure why it bothers me so much. i used to dress like that back in the 90s, but i was being ironic...& it al came from the savation army.....but these people pay big money for this look!
its really outta control in my neighborhood, everyone tryin to out-ho each other.

You certainly revelled in the attention being lavished on you by the men of the board. The response to your comments is pretty akin to the response women expect to get when they don one of these shirts, and at the time you were obviously enjoying it.
As far as keeping tabs on you, that isn't particularly necessary, that was the controversy of the month when it happened. It spawned multiples threads, deletions and I think even a suspension or two.

I have a pair of Hollister jeans that I can't wear without underwear.. the holes are numerous.
And that's how I bought them.

Eh, everyone has their moments. Sure, I regret that time. But i thnk it was, at the time, a need to fit in on the board. I wasn't trying to "revel in the attention of the men", it had nothing to do with that. It was a simple matter of trying to make a name for myself here. And it wasn't just the men I was joking with either--it was simply posters in general.
in any case, it's regrettable but I'm not going to get all fired up about it. If you want to think of me as a hypocrite, that's your perogative as I can see there's nothing I can do to change your malicious attitude towards me. Que sera sera
