Whenever someone talks like that, imo it tends to make them sound like they're talking about themselves, not some big societal picture.

There's really no further depth or explanation to it than this is the "adult" version of saying "that's so gay" to describe anything one finds unappealing.
I think it's also telling that there were fewer votes cast in the Value Voters Summit's '12 presidential straw poll (that Huckabee won) than there are in most high school student council elections.

Now I get it. I read an article about it and the are apparently saying telling kids this is a good way to keep them from rubbing one out. If looking at porno makes you gay, then 12 year-olds won't want to look at porno.
