Actually, it was not a unanimous vote.

Bush had different information than most members of Congress. They gave him the power to go to war. But, he was also under the obligation to update Congress on the situation, which he never accurately did. While they should not have given him this authority, do not pretend that Congress had the same information as Bush.

He failed to display leadership after 9/11.
He invaded Afgangistan and put a major fork in the Tailban's plans, and that must count for something.
He turned the Republican Party into the party of borrow-and-spend and turned Clinton's surplus into a deficit.
Actually, Bush isn't responsible for the deficit, as it started in year 2000. He didn't take office until a year later.
He lied about the reasons to go to war.
If you look at some early media sources from the Clinton years, they will freely admit that Saddam and Osama bin Laden were indeed allies. The mainstream media is just covering it up now.

That was the mayor's responsibility, not his.

The war---frankly, I would have nuked the middle east on September 18th, so Dubya is doing a better job than I would have.

I'm not entirely sure any more. My life is no worse than it was 6 years ago, save the price of gas.
This is the problem with America..........if it doesn't affect us, we tend not to care, and I think this is so sad......and I mean no disrespect to CK, as most are like this.

If you will read more closely, I am acknowledging the double standard, which is much farther than most people are willing to go.
I think people care more than you are willing to admit Elphaba. The problem is that "caring" is an issue of perception in many cases. If people don't agree with one side of an issue, the other side tends to see them as not caring or indifferent, which is often the opposite of truth.

My post is a god damn bomb, since I was papa-in-waiting at one point. Even with it, I'm still in the party.
ETA: I would never support an amendment, and that might be the last straw for me.

Civil liberties and civil rights are two ENTIRELY different things. Civil rights affect minorities who have been disenfranchised. Civil liberties are the freedoms we all supposedly enjoy under our Constitution. Those rights are under attack. And how, you may ask. One small story: I was at a bookstore, picking up a new book about the assisination of President Lincoln. It's a subject that fascinates me. At the checkout counter, I noticed they were selling COUNTDOWN TILL THE END OF BUSH clocks. I was about to buy one for my friend for his birthday...and I thought, nope...better not. It won't look good while I'm buying a book on Booth. Why should I ever have to worry about that?

I love when I see lines like that, as it shows that the writer doesn't understand the nuances of how the world works.
Do you have any idea what doing that would have done, other than start World War 3. That would truly unite all of the Arab World, Europe, Asia, and Russia against us......and probably would have led to the downfall of the US...although Bush is doing a good job of that himself. And frankly with everyone aginst us....we would not win, or if we did, what would be left?

Well, then please show me a source from the LA Times or the NY Times that indicating that therer was unanimous agreement to invade Iraq.

There was one brief time when the entire world was with us, save a few nations in the middle east, and that was after 9/11. Our reaction to that tragedy was tricky and important and Bush blew it big time, by hornswagling the congress into believing Hussein was a much bigger threat than he was.

The thing is, that everyone was not against us. Bush turned them against us with his reckless and unilateral policies.
After 9/11, we had the vast majority of the world's support, and could have used that to actually faciliate change. Bush wasted the enormous goodwill in pursuit of the NeoCon's agenda in Iraq.

This is ridiculous, and hearing this kind of logic makes me so angry. So it's the mayor of New Orleans's fault that money wasn't allocated to make sure the levees were up to par? It was the mayor of New Orleans's fault that a completely incompetent FEMA director appointed by the President had no earthly clue how to handle the situation once it became an emergency, and further claimed not to even know that there were people taking shelter at the Convention Center without food or water until DAYS after the storm, when the media had been covering it continuously? If you're the director of FEMA -- or, hell, I think we can even include the President in this -- it is your JOB to know these things and be able to get a handle on the situation. I won't deny that there were certainly failings on many levels with regards to Hurricane Katrina, but to deny that this was a huge failure of leadership on Bush's part seems totally deluded. Particularly for a president who had based his entire campaign for re-election on leadership and being able to handle disaster situations... you f*cking handle it, or at least appoint people who can.
And don't even get me started on the people who blame the citizens of New Orleans.
