"When did we get promoted to 2nd class? I didn't get my stripes."

Was that too optimistic in this Republican run society?

USA Today:

Since 1950, there have been six times when presidents had Gallup approval ratings below 50% in the spring as their party sought to keep control of Congress. The president's party lost House seats in all six years, ranging from five in 1968 to 54 in 1994.

A 15-seat switch in November would give the Democrats a majority in the House. A six-seat switch would give Democrats control of the Senate.

YAY that's good news PalJoey. I just heard that on Al Franken's show from yesterday as well. Yes I'm an Al Franken junkie haha.

Look, tz0o is a child. There's no sense in arguing with her. And if Magdalene doesn't recall Bush's advocation of a constitutional ban on gay marriage, I have to assume he/she is as clueless on every other matter of policy.

I just stop paying attention when the right talks about gay rights, since they are such obvious hypocrites in that area!

But you don't have any problem with the idea of them selling civil rights down the river as long as you know they're hypocrites?

You're "better than the other options" opinion begins to lose credibility when you admit that you just ignore such huge Republican issues.

I didn't say that I don't have a problem with it---I just said I don't listen to them when they discuss gay rights because they are so far off the mark! Most politicos are.

That... doesn't make very much sense. So gay rights aren't a priority on your list of issues that you care about? It sounds as though you're in support of them, but to completely ignore the issue implies that you don't care that much. I just don't see how one can support a party that advocates denying people fundamental civil rights, regardless of how many other stances on their platform you may agree with.

"Listen to them--and hear what we're saying: They're using your gay friends and neighbors as scapegoats.

Which is why you must join us in removing them from power."

There is an election on 2+ years, I'll make up my mind when I see the candidates. I will fight tooth and nail against a constitutional amendment regarding 'marriage is only between a man and a woman'. I don't trust the Democrats on this issue, either.

Even Bush's core base is deserting him:

===

Approval for President George W. Bush among white evangelical Protestants, his most loyal supporters, has fallen to a new low, with nearly half agreeing in a new poll that they are “tired of all of the problems associated with the Bush administration”.

The survey, from the Pew Research Center, underlines the challenge facing the Bush administration in maintaining the disparate coalition that re-elected him. Although a majority of evangelicals still back him, their approved has declined at the same rate as the rest of the public.

According to Pew, 55 per cent of white evangelicals approve of Mr Bush, down from the start of his second term when he had 72 per cent approval ratings; 35 per cent have an unfavourable view of Mr Bush, against 21 per cent of evangelical voters in October 2004.
