Ha-That's so funny SweetLips2 that you should go to all that trouble pretending to be me.If you think that might somehow annoy me-you are terribly wrong and childish-I am actually flattered.Post away pretending to me-it's all good fun.

Reg, is that link for real? It seems like it's from the humor section of The New Yorker but then it goes on to talk about Hillary and Benghazi.

I hope it's real though. Anytime Rand Paul makes an ass out out of himself an angel gets wings.

Hey Taz. I'm always surprised by those taken in by Borowitz (it's happened on this board many times), but I really shouldn't be. Some republicans are so outrageous that it can be difficult to tell truth from satire, and Borowitz's style often necessitates the use of "quotes". The Borowitz report is a satire column, though. He's been writing it since 2001.

Rand Paul did make a huge ass of himself yesterday, when in the course of his browbeating of Hillary Clinton, he made the claim that Benghazi was "the worst tragedy in American history since 9/11".

A cut and paste from Upworthy in response: "Four Americans died when the heroic ambassador drove directly into a firefight to save his staff. It was incredibly painful for all Americans. But since 9/11, we've also had Katrina, Sandy, Aurora, Tucson, the Iraq war, the Afghanistan war, the BP Oil Spill (which killed 11 and affected hundreds of thousands of lives), and just recently Newtown, where 20 children and 6 adults were massacred. There's plenty more I don't have the time to name. There are so many tragedies that affect our country day to day, but we just don't use them to score cheap political points in an investigative hearing. We should be better than that. Sen. Paul should know better. And he should apologize. It's inexcusable. "

I wholeheartedly agree.

I don't know, she doesn't put a nervous, dainty energy out there. I mean, if Kelly Clarkson wasn't worried, why would Beyonce be? And, fine, let's say nerves got the better of her and she didn't want to sing live (as a singer/songwriter, I have no respect for this but I digress) why the big ear piece move? The first thing I started reading was "Wow, look at her go! She's SO daring and SO talented, she don't even need that ear piece." She's just so contrived ... and not that great.

I mean, if Kelly Clarkson wasn't worried, why would Beyonce be?

Maybe because they aren't the same person?

As for the ear piece move, did anyone actually watch her pull it out? It's not nearly as dramatic or showy as just reading about it would lead you to believe.

Perhaps she had some feedback on interference in her ear piece. Or maybe it hurt. Or maybe she just wanted to make a dramatic gesture. I certainly don't know and don't see why any of it matters at all. If I paid $200 for a ticket to see a singer specifically perform a live concert, then I might feel differently.

It matters because Beyonce, who by all accounts seems to be pretty professional, rarely (if ever) gets involved in tabloid scandals and has genuine talent, needs to be brought down a peg or two!

Count me as one of the ones that doesn't get the defending of Beyonce. In this day of age.. if your going to Lip Synch people are going to know. The people saying what is the big deal? Well it should be a big deal to her. No one else did it in this program... so she does come out sub par. And as far as all the other times people have done it... They shouldn't be doing it either. And all this baloney about it being out doors or huge venues. What a load of crap. If they can't do it.. then they shouldn't be doing it. Aretha sang live at the 1st inauguration and she did not sound very good. It was still real and more riveting. And she even said herself that she was not happy with her performance . But it was live. Not memorex. We saw Streisand perform at the Bowl this past November. It was freezing and you could here the shivering in her voice. But it was real, rich and very human. I could care less about Beyonce.. I don't buy her records or go to her shows. But the inauguration is a historic event. And regardless of what has been done in the past... the lip-synching is a embarrassment. ( in my opinion)

Patti LuPone told Andy Cohen last night on Watch What Happens Live that there was now way Beyonce was lip-synching.

I honestly have no issue with her lip synching for this particular occasion. It's not a concert that she performs 100 times a year in a controlled indoor setting.

There are so many uncontrollable variables in a situation where one is singing outside in below 20° temperatures for a crowd of hundreds of thousands. And it's THE INAUGURATION. It doesn't diminish her talent (to me at least).

Really, much ado about nothing.

What I think is far more worth gossiping about is the fact that she didn't stay for the rest of the day's events (including the dinner). She and Jaz-Z hopped a plane and had dinner in New Orleans.

Which, btw, I find highly amusing for some reason.

And for the record, I'm a Beyonce fan. Even though that Destiny's Child single they just released is beyond awful.

Thanks for clarifying that the link was sarcastic, ghostlight. I don't usually read The New Yorker so I didn't realize. Beyonce Lip-synched.

You are all so good at making excuses.

"It's not a concert that she performs 100 times a year in a controlled indoor setting. "

Even worst. It is the presidential inauguration.

"There are so many uncontrollable variables in a situation where one is singing outside in below 20° temperatures for a crowd of hundreds of thousands. And it's THE INAUGURATION. It doesn't diminish her talent (to me at least). "

But everyone else sang live and sounded good so it DOES diminish her talent.

And I don't thnk chit chatting about a television event should get the "much ado about nothing" blah, blah. We talk about tv crap here all the time.

What is sad is that people these days are satisfied with so little.

Even sadder thing is that no one should be talking about Beyonce but about how incredible Kelly Clarkson was.

Ever since I found out Whitney lip-synched her definitive Star Spangled Banner, I just assume that's what most people do.

I think it's an interesting question.

How are people demonstrating being "satisfied with so little" when they accept lyp-syncing?

It IS a performance by the same performer--it's simply using technology to provide the best possible version of the performance.

To object to the use of the recording seems to be saying that the performance only "counts" when the artist is forced to overcome some arbitrary--and random--series of hurdles.

Do people who object to lip-syncing object to amplification?

Where is the line between acceptable and un-acceptable in the use of technology to ensure the best possible performance?

I feel like we need to retroactively string up Yo-Yo Ma and Itzhak Perlman for the way they deceived us at the LAST inauguration. And they didn't even have voices to protect!

Well Phyllis you bring up a very interesting point. Except if i remember correctly they did not deceive anyone. I know that very same day Yo-Yo said he played to a track. Has Beyonce said anything yet? Would she if no one had brought it up? And would you guys be so forgiving if it was someone else?

I prefer a honest and truthful one myself. One full of the richness of imperfections of a live performance. Unless of course you are Russel Crowe.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'd feel the same if it were anyone.

Your point that "it's the inauguration" is actually what makes me not care. It wasn't a Beyonce concert, it was the inauguration and it featured music. I'd rather any artist--Beyonce, Yo Yo Ma, Kelly Clarkson, if she'd so chosen--not screw up the ceremony if they felt they weren't at their best.

On the other hand, if someone did perform live and ran into problems, I imagine I'd be pretty forgiving, given the circumstances.

Only speaking for myself, I know that there have been so many times the Star Spangled Banner has been lip-synched, that I just couldn't feel anything about it.

I don't know what it is about that song that it needs to be pre-recorded so often.

Truthfully if I were Beyonce or any artist with self respect and dignity I would feel pretty humiliated. I respect everyones right to see things differently. But for me I think it is sad that there is lip-synching at the inauguration.

Like someone else who? Kelly "If Ron Paul wins the nomination for the Republican party in 2012 he's got my vote but no, I voted for Obama twice(?)" Clarkson? Homegirl may have sung live on Monday, but she seems like an absolute moron.

For the record, I don't think Beyonce is keeping it from anyone. I wonder if it was someone other than Beyonce involved would people be so quick to ascribe nefarious motives to her? The wildly exaggerated way some people have described the way she removed her earpiece seems to prove my point.

And like others said, (including Namo and Patti LuPone) Beyonce may have well been singing live to her own track.

And theaternut, I assume you feel that Yo-Yo Ma and and Perlman should be humiliated over their performance four years ago, then, right?

I really don't care enough about this to add my two cents but I'm going to anyway.
I think the last place a vocalist should lip synch is while singing the National Anthem at a Presidential Inauguration.
And I remember thinking it was pretty dramatic ripping off the ear piece while I was watching it...before all this lip synch nonsense even started.

I think the last place a vocalist should lip synch is on an opera stage.
