Well what pissed me off a little was the media giving her all this attention while kelly Clarkson and J Hud later all sang live and sounded phenomenal and they didn't get their due.

I think Clarkson was the star of the day, as far as singers go. I thought Beyonce (even prerecorded) performed a totally fine, nothing spectacular version of the song.

I was actually thinking Jhud was lip-synching while I watched her. Stuff just wasn't matching up and there were those backup singers that I could hear but not see.

Didn't see Beyonce. Kelly was definitely live and did a great job.

The version I saw on Youtube you could tell that she was pre-recorded, but I also thought she was singing along (you could hear her live and the recording).

Kelly Clarkson was wonderful. I loved her reaction at the end, especially when she turned back around and said, "I voted for y'all."

I don't mind Beyonce lip-synching. We all know she can sing the song live and hit those notes. Beyonce was also supposedly under the weather during the event. It's not like Ashlee Simpson who would otherwise be intolerable without the pre-recorded track.

Whether she was ill or told by the powers that be at the last minute that the performance would be lip-synched is moot. She lip syncs nearly all of her performances. She's been pre-recording vocals for "live" events since Justin Bieber was riding a tricycle.

Kelly was amazing. Started off a bit shaky, but that's to be expected when you're singing in 20 degree weather in a huge open space.

Of course, Beyonce has too much of a perfect image to maintain to risk even the slightest flub. But the in ear thing was a brilliant touch. I cackled when I watched it live!

I was also annoyed at all the attention given to Beyonce, while Clarkson remained virtually ignored.

Kelly sang live, and was spectacular. She remains one of my favorite singers.

Beyonce doesn't sing as well as Kelly in my opinion, and she doesn't receive any credit for lipsynching at the inauguration ceremony. Too afraid you won't get it right live, Beyonce? I don't care who she is, Kelly wins!

Yup. And so was Beyonce's, and Jennifer Hudson's. Though Kelly was 100% live last year. Generally with huge outdoor performances like this, the people behind the scenes recommend pre-recorded tracks (look at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade!). It's rare for a performer to actually fight that and insist on singing live. Kelly is one of those performers.

Though in this case, from what my friend who worked on the inauguration tells me, both Kelly and Beyonce recorded their tracks Sunday night as a "just in case" scenario. But Kelly spent the entire weekend rehearsing, while Beyonce didn't. Updated On: 1/22/13 at 04:39 PM
