He was awful. I usually like to try and give hosts a chance, regardless of who they are. But, this was not good at all. The opening was a week late and probably still would not have been funny. I get there was no show last week though. The monologue seemed a tab bit offensive. Or am I being too sensitive?
Taz: Hillary Swank's "LA Face" skit from a few years back is one of my favorite skits ever! Because of it, my boyfriend and I tell each other "Yes b!tch, really" every time one of us asks "Really?" We've even shortened it to YBR.
That was the worst SNL in recent memory (last three or four years or so). Bieber has NO talent. None. He can't act, he can't sing, he can't dance, he's not funny. The only thing he's good for is making 12-16 year old girls swoon.
SNL is a show for adults. It's on at 11:30 at night. How about treating the audience like actual adults and giving us REAL comic actors as hosts and real singers as the musical guests? I actually found the show somewhat insulting last night, as though Bieber thought his just BEING THERE was enough.
And they need to retire that Californians skit. It was funny the first time and gotten less and less funny each recurring time. (Honestly, I wish Armisen would just leave already - he's NEVER funny).
I've never once found The Californians funny. And it's exactly the same skit every time they do it.
I missed it, but sadly it will probably be a ratings bonanza.
This is why I become so unhinged when the issue of crowd-sourcing comes up. This is the kind of stuff "the crowd" wants. Curating is an art, y'all.
But I thought the black history month monologue, the Bravo commercial and Richard III's best friends (who are always great to see) were pretty funny.
The best Californians sketch was the one from a dress rehearsal where no one could keep it together. But I guess that doesn't count.
And Bieber is just the worst.
I saw the dress rehearsal one, too. The one with Josh Brolin on Hulu, right?
Yeah, that's the one.
haha, after reading this whole thread, I'm not a bit bothered by the fact that I liked Bieber and loved the Californians! I usually don't like the show.
An excruciating 90 minutes of television. Bieber was the worst! Absolutely zero talent, musically or otherwise. He didn't even have the comic sense to change his facial expression during his close-ups in the The Californians sketch, which for the record is one of the least funniest recurring SNL sketches of all time. I watched the entire train wreck from start to finish and can honestly say that I didn't so much as crack a smile even once. Just don't get what anyone - even a 12 year old girl - sees in that talentless tool bag.
Luscious- I did crack a smile when they were making jabs at Bieber in the decoy sketch. Especially when Bieber said something like they would never believe the black one and Sedacis said something like neither do we- or whatever it was. I literally laughed out loud on that one.
Bieber was really awful but the show itself wasn't as bad as some are making it out to be. I mean, in the past few seasons there have been faaaaaaaaaaaaar worse episodes. For an episode that wasn't great, there were a few skits that had some funny lines and a couple that were actually funny. That's more than can be said about other eps.

If it was for rating it backfired.
Bieber has turned into a total douche bag.
Everything that made him safe for kids has been left behind for this new, 'street cred', which is nothing more that pulling his pants down and turning his hat to the side.
He had every opportunity to turn into a 'nice, young man' but he's decided he'd rather be a tool.
TheatreDiva, that is who he is. I don't think the kid ever picked up a book in his life. He was a total tool on set. Self absorbed. He seemed to go out of his way to say and do offensive things.
Whenever da Biebs was on screen all I felt was "ick". A complete and utter douche. Why would someone who really can't sing that well force so much "singing" into so many moments of the show.

Everybody keeps mentioning his target audience is 12 year olds. Can someone explain his appeal to lesbians? For some reason, lesbians love him.
Maybe because he looks like a lesbian?

Yes, but lesbians have drag kings. I will admit, I like his new song with Nicki Minaj.
Nicki is another tool who can't sing without auto tune.
They need to retire The Californians forever. We get it. California has lots of highways. Not. Funny.
