As a point of clarification of the posts written by the previous two apologists:
NO, all artists DO NOT lipsync.
As I wrote in my post in this thread, I am not trying to talk people out of spending their money on such things, I just think it says something profoundly sad about this culture. And your two posts amplify that for me.

Well i work in this industry and even pop artists with the biggest voices (Mariah, Whitney etc) have all used pre record at one time or another
I should have said Pop Artist, obviously your classical artists etc don't and many rock bands (though Bon Jovi and Metalica both used click track for backing)
Im not saying i agree with it (i don't, it annoys me, and really annoys me when theatre shows use them too) but i understand them been used occasionally if its a high energy show like Madonna's, and the fact she does sing live (to varying degrees of success lol)most of the time is fine by me.
However i do not agree with Britney and other acts like her which will mime 95 percent of the concert.
Oh and Namo i will take it that as someone who is so against Click Track being used you probably avoid many Broadway shows, since many of them use it too?

Ah yes, Ye Olde Highe Energy excuse.
I don't give a crap about click tracks. I just see no reason to take part in the charade that somebody who is being paid money to put on a concert is, in fact, singing, when they are not.

Well click tracks are the same thing, so if you are paying over 100 bucks to see a Broadway or West end LIVE show wouldn't you expect it ALL to be live?
Many ensembles are supported by click tracks, normally due to the choreography being so demanding (biggest offender on Broadway is Poppins).
Things like this are used in concerts or stage musicals when movement will affect a vocal performance, its not an excuse just because you think it is, its fact.
Though as ive said i agree that with artists like Britney that its a rip off and an insult to people paying far to much money to listen to a recording

It's against Equity rules to have pre-recorded tracks on Broadway.

You might want to explain the equity thing to poppins (uses the same click track as the London one and the current UK tour) and also Hairspray did the same (especially on You Cant Stop The Beat)

I highly doubt they would go against Equity rules.

Saw the tour tonight... and while I had fun, she's not even close to where she used to be...
My roommate on the other hand FLIPPED OUT--he LOVED it.
I have very high expectations for a person who I pay 80+ dollars to watch lip sync is all.
I remember when I saw her at Six Flags Over Texas nearly 10 years ago for 5 dollars. Can you believe it?

This is your narrow definition of who is concertizing?
I'm glad I stick to mostly live Blues acts - and trust me, NONE of them are using tracks. And they're playing, singing and moving all over the stage for at least 3 hours of entertainment. And I don't pay these ridiculous amounts of money to watch a technological display.
I pay to see and hear musicians.

Parks- I'm seeing it at the Coliseum the week after next, for her return show. Which side was she facing the most, like what section(s) was she facing the most?

That was my sarcastic, bitchy way of saying the only concern she has is for the money.
And yes, that's what I really think.

I was in 303. She faced my side and across from me a lot--but overall, she did a good job of covering all sides. :)

"I have very high expectations for a person who I pay 80+ dollars to watch lip sync is all."
That's your first mistake.
"I remember when I saw her at Six Flags Over Texas nearly 10 years ago for 5 dollars. Can you believe it?"
Believe it? I believe she should never have left the theme parks and nobody should ever have paid more than $5 to see her.

This thread is depressing beyond words.
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”

I'd recommend bringing binoculars. The view isn't bad--and it's not *too* far away, but I kind of wish I had had binoculars. The girls behind me had some and used them.
