Posted: 3/20/15 at 10:17amThe AV Club review of the finale brings up a point as to why the show is so great: never has there been an episode in which Abbi and Ilana are in competition or fighting. Most shows pit their characters against one another (especially female characters), even if they're friends and ultimately make up.

I love that about their dynamic. It's why I get so furious when I keep seeing a recurring comment theme under various recaps that says something, "But we can all agree Illana is the funny one" and I just want to slug people who do that. Trying to suggest there has to be one who is "better" than the other in a duo just seems to fly in the face of what this show is about.
I've gone back to the link gift that Jay gave us and was happy to see most of the comments that have appeared (including one from our own Eric) have pushed back against the specious claims it makes. One of the authors responds, and while she doesn't exactly double-down on her word soup, she doesn't really strongly defend her points, whatever they are. (My favorite comment is "Also is a 'genre whore' someone who watches different genres of TV? Who doesn't watch different genres of TV?")

She is a really gifted physical comedian - that totally unnecessary roll she does over the hood of the cab in the finale is perfect- and this season has found more ways to showcase it.

I never felt like Abbi and Ilana's friendship WAS the joke. Yeah, them being friends is going to lead to comedic events but it's not like viewers are making fun of their female dynamic.
I think it does the opposite actually, their friendship isn't a central joke, it's a model for what healthy relationships look like. okay some might disagree on the details of healthy but I'm talking about support, love, honesty, etc.

I liked when Illana was being pulled away by the truck and she cried out, "Illana!" and Abbi cried out "Abbi - Illana!"

I watched it with my bf tonight and even though I KNEW all the gags were coming I STILL laughed uncontrollably.

Dear lord, did I laugh at this episode. Trey, Vanessa Williams, Nicole, this episode was one of the weirdest ever and I loved every second of it. Except when Abby whacked that girl.
