Is Drudge still claiming to be straight??
He's never acknowledged being gay.
That's the real reason, harris. It really has nothing to do with the film, huh? It no doubt will for me too, but that's why I want to see it. I always feel better after a good cry.
*sigh* I have no idea how I'm going to sneak into this movie. There are only 3 theaters in the whole place, and the shows sell out an hour ahead. Any suggestions?
Well, Michelangelo Signorile has outted him lol!
So, wait. Is this movie going to turn my mild depression into Sylvia Plath-level insanity?
If it does, try to get it right the first time! (If only she'd thought of the oven when she was 10...)
This film is going to be unbelievable...
I tear up just at the thought of the concept, and reading that Variety review only strengthened that...
Why is it so far away from release?!?!?
The TRAILER made me cry! Seriously.
I'm excited to see it...I've been in an EXTREMELY uncharacteristically emotional period lately, and I think I could use a good heartwrenching love story.
I mean, I just saw Latter Days and bawled my head off...if that cheeseball dreck'll do it, just *imagine* what Brokeback is going to do to me.
*crushes up large amounts of Wellbutrin in advance*
yup lil dogs it is
i saw "trick" in orlando when it opend years ago, went with group of bud and there bf's me being the only single one , looking back i should have said No to going, i know i'm probley gonna get things thrown at me for saying this, but i'm not into the "gay" themed movie usually it about two things 1) cute boy A wants cute boy b they stuggle but hook up, and those remind me i'm single and not cute , depresses me. Or the movie is about guy with HIV dying , which REALLY DEPRESSES ME.
so thats why i'm debating on seeing this, it gonna piss me off/depress me lol if it makes ya feel better i'm having the same debate about rent, keeping in mind when rent came out i was huge rent fan.
Let them throw rocks, harris. I'm not a big fan of gay-themed films either, usually because they blow, both figuratively and literally. I trust Ang lee to make a fine film as he has done in the past, but I completely understand what you mean. When I was living sans homme in Southeast Texas, it was painful to see happy gay boys finding love or tragic gay boys facing eternity. This might be one for Netflix, my friend. Don't feel bad if you don't want to see something that will upset you, but being honest about why you don't want to see it is healthy; unpopular maybe, but it's fine. And so are Heath and Jake!
"but i'm not into the "gay" themed movie usually it about two things 1) cute boy A wants cute boy b they stuggle but hook up, and those remind me i'm single and not cute , depresses me. Or the movie is about guy with HIV dying , which REALLY DEPRESSES ME."
Ahhhhh, but remember, this is from the director of The Wedding Banquet, another gay-themed film that was not about either of those two things and managed to be funny, touching and poignantly brilliant, even if the white guy did have a really bad haircut.
And certainly there should be a distinction between films where the characters happen to be gay and "gay films" that deal with "gay issues".
Ang Lee is a great director--I'd be wanting to see this film even if it wasn't about hot, gay cowboys ****ing in the middle of the open prairies.
*Jerby must now fan himself*
>>Don't open the movie at all in the bible belt, and let the controversy shift to censorship.
ouch. there are gay people in the bible belt, too, my friend. lots of them. not enough to turn a state blue, but i bet you would be surprised to hear there are gay districts in many major "bible belt" cities, including dallas. the truth of the matter is, we're living in a purple country, and avoiding prodomintly repub places simply because you're afraid of controversy isn't smart or nice. you're just letting down the gay people there.
[that having been said, i do live in brooklyn now, so i will get to see this film and i'm sure i will cry even though i'm not a cowboy or a gay man, something tells me it's a universal story.]
I wasn't too impressed with the trailer, but I've always loved Ang Lee (HULK excepted), so I'm there. It's such a perfect recipe: Ang Lee + two hot actors + gay cowboy love.
Was anyone else getting giddy when reading the Variety review?
The snuggling quickly, and roughly, turns into something else. Their primal urges take things to where neither of them has gone before, and they can scarcely digest it or talk about it afterward. "You know I ain't queer," Ennis manages, to which Jack concurs, "Me neither." But it isn't long before they're at it again
Because even sexually-confused macho men follow their G spot.
But a quick sex scene in which Ennis flips his wife over on her stomach tells us all we need to know about his true preferences.
Ahahahahahaha! I guess that means Jake Gyllenhaal's character is the bottom.
Again, for anyone who hasn't read it, go get the story the movei is based on: Annie Proulx's "Brokeback Mountain" in her Close Range: Wyoming Stories.
There's a movie tie-in edition with just Brokeback, but you might as well read them all. There's also a 2nd volumes of Wyoming Stories called Bad Dirt.
Close Range: Wyoming Stories
They're selling just the short story as a movie tie-in?
Maybe they'll be pictures....
granted jerby but there is 95% i'll be seeing this alone , yeah that will be good getting all hot and botherd by myself, and unless your flying down to orlando, anytime soon it's gonna suck
Yes, but at $9.53 for just the one story ($14.95 in hardcover), you might as well buy the whole book of short stories.
And Harris--stop having a solo pity party and get over here and give your PalJoey a big bearhug.
I am quite suprised at the restraint shown at Harris' "suck" comment.
Either my mind is in the gutter more than the rest of you (doubtful) or you all must be focusing on all of the pretty pictures with Hugh, Jason and David.
