Sock puppets and trolling aside,

"This action conceived by baristas, for baristas."

Ahem...

I just *happen* to have a lot going on at school that day. It's not like I'm too gay to function.

Harumph.

If I call in Bi-Sexual, can I have a half day?

If that many people call in, does that mean really long lines for matinees at the TKTS booth?

If you don't want to call in gay, then here's something you can do:

I have again called the folks at Hilton since nothing has been done about the video that was posted by Prop 8 supporters on Youtube.

I was told that they would be taking no action to remove their logo from the video.

I have a case number with the corporate offices: 579-8236

Please call them at 1-800-HILTONS (1-800-445-8667) and ask for Guest Assistance. I spoke with a Supervisor named Kenya.

When I asked whomever I spoke with today what she would feel if the KKK went in and filmed a hated filled video with the hotels logo in front of them, wouldn't it upset her? She said 'No, I wouldn't hold the hotel responsible and I'm African-American."

My friend sent this email directly to the hotel and got no response:

rdelgado@doubletreeocairport.com

Hello Mr. Delgado-

Wow I saw your reply to the inquiry about the hostile video posted on YouTube clearly showing the Doubletree logo from Santa Ana. Your reply that anyone can rent the podium and make their own video showing your logo is possibly the worst reply I can imagine.

As a long time user of Doubletree hotels for business travel I am stunned, and will cease using Doubleltree hotels for future travel.

But of course it goes beyond this: Imagine if the KKK used your hotel and taped a video against people of color. Or if a Christian group made a video that spoke out against Jewish people. I can guarantee you that the hotel would not only request the video be removed but would also start legal action.

Your very act of indifference to this video sets the tone for how you see this issue. You don't see significant link between your hotel and a hostile group speaking out against the rights of a minority.

But when Doubletree gets added to the list of businesses and individuals, who want the gay dollar but don’t respect their rights, this will begin to make a very significant impact.

I am going to take your response to a higher level in your organization to ensure that your comments are made known to your employers.

I request again that you not only look at this video but take corrective action and tell YouTube to remove it. You have a very legitimate reason to request this. The video clearly shows the Doubletree logo which would indicate the unauthorized endorsement of the Doubletree Hotel for Prop 8.

Offensive Video

Now we'll have to see if Corine goes to work on the 10th. It's the one sure way to find out if she's really the Lesbian she claims to be!

Can I just say I hope a lot of people here in SF don't call in gay. I was planning on do my shopping tomorrow and it will be hard if all the stores and boutiques are closed. Plus trying to get down Market through Castro will be a bitch...

Though on a side note, the whole 'A day without a [blank]' seems to be getting a bit old. There must be some new protest tactics out there.

I will not be calling in. I work for a small non-profit. There are just three of us. The only people who would be effected are my two coworkers who are nothing but loving and supportive. It would just make things harder for them. I have nothing but respect for those of you who will be taking the day off. I love seeing people stand up for what they believe in.
Pretty pretty please don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f**ckin' perfect!

I have avoided weighing in on this...until now. I can not imagine anything sillier than to call in gay. I have a work ethic and will be at work tomorrow as always. My students very often say, "Don't you EVER miss a day?" I give them my stock answer, "If I am ever not here, one of you go to the coroner's office and identify the body."

I think this protest is very ill conceived! I don't think anyone with a serious career (rather then a job) will call in sick. I don't think anyone in their right minds who work for a Gay Friendly company will call in sick (why should they punish those good employers?), What of those in the health profession? Are they going to risk the lives of their patients in protest? Are those young performers who worked so hard to land a job on a Broadway show going to call in Gay on a two performance day?
It is ill conceived and will not make a ripple in the fight.

Who cares? This is a stupid idea which will result in people coming to work after their day off to two days' of work on their desk and the resentment of their coworkers.

Go to work people! Fight the power instead not at the expense of your paycheck.

re: CALL in GAY DAY - December 10, 2008

Calling in Gay has got to be one of the most immature, stupid things on this planet. Who cares if someone is straight or gay....who cares?

There is no law on the books that says if you call in gay, you can get the day off - either with pay or without. Being ill, jury duty, etc...are real, legit ways to call in sick, or take the day off. Calling in to say that you're gay.....what's the point? It's nothing but sheer stupidity.

Just because a video with the Doubletree Hotel logo on it, doesn't mean that the Hilton chain supports bad things. They are a business..........bottom line. They are a business that makes money by renting their meeting rooms. Any type of group has a right to gather where they want........hotel meeting room, Central Park, etc. Making snide comments to Doubletree doesn't do anything. And, I'm sure that they could care less that you'll never stay there again.

I'll give you an example - let's say a video on Youtube popped up about a KKK Meeting in Los Angeles. Does that mean that the governor Arnold S is responsible? Doubletree, and the Hilton chain has absolutely nothing to do with that group.

And, if the video bothers you so much, then don't look at it.

re: CALL in GAY DAY - December 10, 2008

Neal,

I'm shocked that it doesn't seem to bother you at all.

Your hypothesis about calling the Governor if the KKK has a meeting isn't what I'm asking for. I'm asking for Doubletree to remove their logo from an offensive video.

If you read my letter, I mentioned the KKK, but I guess you skimmed over that part…

re: CALL in GAY DAY - December 10, 2008

So, how is this working out so far for everyone.

One of the baristas as *$ was out this morning, but it turns out he's just sick.

One thing I've never understood about this whole idea is how do we expect people to know we're out b/c we're gay. Most people just assume we're sick or whatever.

....but the world goes 'round

Not to mention some companies (hello, Scottrade, you awful cesspool of misery!) will FIRE you if you call in sick and turn out not to be sick.

Also, I keep reading about people taking $80 from the bank in regards to this. Anyone have any idea what that's about?
