I know a bunch about my Dad's side of the family, but my mom and her 80 different branches have always been a blank (she just finally started to talk about her mother who died before I was born. And I never even knew she had a brother until I was 17 type of deal). But my cousin and her aunt started doing ancestry.com so she has been filling me in. My grandfather's name is not his actual name. My great grandfather got fed up with the family and ran off to join the circus (he also left me an inheritance that the family squandered) and my grandmother's family has some serious serious Mob ties. Never a dull moment.
The fog is the thickest I've seen it right now.
Moony, that's the reason I stay off of Ancestry during the week.

I even dreamed about the search when I finally went to bed. They should put a warning on that site.
Dearest Cousin, I have reached a dead end at a Rene LeBlanc, father of Daniel (b. 1626 in France). Daniel is my great, great, great, great, great, great, great (I could be off a great) grandfather on the the Landry/Richard side of the tree.

Yup - he's mine as well! Sadly, Rene dies in Canada in 1626 - the year Daniel was born. BTW - Daniel was actually born in Canada. He was listed, originally as being born in "New France", then soem records dropped the "New", hence some family records have him as born in France. I hope he got to see his son before he died. It's Daniel/Rene's line that stretches back to 1475. Do you want the lineage?

Check your email, babe.
Hey there glitz!
OK, I just had a Homer moment - I did not realize that you too were actually distant cousins!
Happy Thursday. My sister has done some of the lineage stuff in the US, but I am not sure we could even do it for my mom's side of the family after it got to the US. I honestly wonder if they have much from Jewish families from Eastern Europe and Spain. My grandma basically fled Lithuania hidden in a wheelbarrow...
My Dad's family was on the boats after the Mayflower, so I would think that side of the family would be more viable.

You - we discovered, early on, that our mothers both had the same family name and that their grandparents (by the same name) were from the same small town in Canada. Also each family married into the same families throughout many generations. So SOMMS and I are cousins in several different branches of our families, which ulitimately lead back to the same ancestor. In other words, SOMMS and I can never marry.
You, yep, we are the Patty and Cathy of BWW!
Cuz, what's really interesting is that I assumed that we were related through my Landry side of the family, but in fact, we are related through my Richard side of the family. I can't get past that damned Calixte to find our Landry connection. Of course, on the Richard side, they married Landry's. I even have a Landry marrying a Landry.
You can marry, Moony, you just can't have children.
and yes, we are both LeBlanc's (howdy cousin Matt!) Bourque's, Comeau's and Leger's. Our kin married young and then had dozen's of children -- winters are brutal in New Brunswick.

I've got one of those, Deet. Somethimes, once is enough.
SOMMS - I actually come from the LeBlancs on both sides of the family. I need to find our connection to Matt!
What really fascinates me the most is that when I met Moony's little beam for the first time I was starring at my mother's nose on her daughter's gorgeous face. Blood!

The night she was born I took one look at that nose and said, "Crap. The curse of the Landry's!" I told my mother (who also has that nose) that she should pay for the plastic surgery.
My younger sister is a dead ringer from my paternal grandmother. Same nose, eyes, hair, fingers (long and lean), skin tone (even fairer than me).
My older sister is all my mom's side.
Me, I am the mutt.

I don't look all that French Canadian, but my siblings really do. I take after my maternal great grandmother, who was half Scotch. I must look like that half.
Linnie once showed me a photo of an aunt that was taken in the 20s - the resemblance to my maternal grandmother from pictures taken in the same era was startling. My grandmother was born here, as was her father -- he served in the Civil War, fighting for the North.
There's a very quick image seen on the Ken Burns "Civil War" series that shows a photo of a regiment from NYC -- there's a soldier in that grouping whose resemblance to my Uncle Vincent is dead on. We're sure it's Nana's father.

PBS also produced a great coffee table book, based on the series. I wonder if that photo is in the book.
I've never seen the book -- I'll check it out.
