My goodness do I want a glass of bubbly tonight!
Addy, cyber reality and reality are not far apart some days!
Don't want to sound stupid but I was googling "veuve" came across this website. Thought it was quite inventive.

Got it, chita. Let me know if you need anything else.
Doodle! The BVI's are beautiful! That sounds fabulous!
Dreamy picture, DD.
Champagne. Always.
Great website, addict.
Maybe Miss Penny could bring back some of that from France for all BWW adults!
I believe she's mentioned she has another champagne which she prefers.
Well, I do think she knows her champagne!
Great website!!

Re: Ian's show - Gore Vidal was also there - I didn't realize he had become wheelchair bound (although, he had the most beautiful young man to assist him ) He's lost NONE of his mind, though. I actually was standing there while he and Armistead were chatting - WHAT a conversation to eavsedrop on!
Michael York was also there (he's the Chairman Emeritus of the group the benefit was for) so I got to chat with him about the AMADEUS we just saw. And he was immeasurably gracious to the many, MANY young students who attended - and seemingly ALL wanted to speak with him. It was nice to see young people so excited about Michael and Ian!
One big negative for me: When Ian finally came out after receiving special guests backstage, there were many people waiting to have their programs signed - BUT, there were also these autograph hounds who had shown up with all their RINGS paraphrenalia to get his signature. They kept saying he only had time to sign actual programs from the show, but these grown men kept shoving the kids out of the way to try and get him to sign their crap anyway! All they wanted was something to sell on E-Bay - it made me SO angry and frustrated for those kids - who were obviously there to see the ACTOR. Ian was continually gracious about it, though - in fact, kept apologizing for his lack of time (fundraising party to attend) I would have had a full-blown Elton-sized meltdown, and probably gotten arrested!
I just don't 'get' some people, DG.
It sounds like a wonderful night! Thanks for sharing your stories!
Yes, it does sound like a wonderful evening, DG.
Wow... awesome DG.
I'm infuriated at my boss... she knows I'm trying to get out of here early to make a concert, but because she's leaving tomorrow at noon for the weekend, she keeps on piling stuff on my desk that she wants done by end of day so SHE can leave on time tomorrow.
The joys of being a drone.

The best part, of course, was IAN! What a thrill to see an idol doing what he does so well. The show was actually very casual, very relaxed and fun. Snippets of his iconic roles mixed with funny stories from his life as an actor and an activist. Our favorite was his piece from GODS AND MONSTERS. One of the items he acquired for himself from the project was James Whale's easel - which he brought over from England with him to use for this presentation. While he set it up and explained what it was and what signifigance it had, he slowly became mr. Whale - ending with putting on the hat, and there he was. He then proceded to do the momologue about losing the love he had during the war - reducing us and everyone else to utter rubble. It was exhilerating.
My other favorite parts were him reading the Roget's Thesaurus listing for 'ululate' - which was great fun - and his recounting of his Knighting ceremony (which he did as his 'encore' - we just didn't want it to end
And Addy - he read quite a bit of poetry - apparently, that's his favorite literary form
WOW DG..sounds like a perfect evening !!!
DD, I'm sorry!
DG, I think I love him even more now. Poetry. *sigh*

I can't think of a better person to read it, either. Such exquisite and amazing control of his instrument - and such passion, with the talent and focus to convey the emotional content completely. It was enthralling. And the fact that he was literally 5 feet away from us while we watched pretty much took my breath away all night!
