...catching up on previous posts:
beacon - my prom theme was "Love The One You're With".
The Principal hated it, and wanted to have us change it, but we all thought it was pretty funny...
JFK - I was 4. I remember the riderless horse really spooked me, and I was very upset by how much my parents and their friends were upset.
I also remember my mother scream when Jack Ruby shot Oswald.
We ate alot of cereal for dinner that week - mom didn't feel like cooking!
RFK, MLK jr - I remember my parents being in a sort of haze from all the violence - and them wanting me to watch the funeral coverage on TV. I think they wanted me to learn that violence doesn't solve anything.
The Moon - absolutely. We had neighbors over, and my grandfather drew my onto his lap and wiped away tears. He couldn't believe what he was seeing. (Think of the technology in HIS lifetime!) It was moving.
WAIT A COTTON-PICKIN' MINUTE!
My little thread has over 1600 posts???
I feel as welcome as Eddie Varley!
I feel as hot as PapaLovesMambo (and WAAAAAY hotter than Stevos).
Thank you all for making this simple, country girl's dream come true!
Bboobs -
My mom always messed up the lyrics (one in particular...Life in the vaseline; instead of Life in the fast lane!)
She also had an annoying habit of wanting to have sing-a-longs in the car - when she was carpooling!
It was one thing to have a sing-a-long when it was just family - we ALL did that. But you did NOT have sing-a-longs with friends in the car! WAY too embarassing!
Another habit that I used to hate - over breakfast in the morning she would go on and on and on about the dreams she had had the night before. I've never known anyone who could remember dreams in such detail. It was so boring...
And when my friends were over, after a sleep-over I was mortified!
Are we going to start playing "Mondegreens"? You know misheard lyrics.. This couldbe fun...
"scuse me while I kiss this guy"
robbiej - THANK YOU for this thread.

robbiej - this thread has provided the perfect opportunity for some of the posters here to identify others of like mind. It has been fantastic to realize how many others here share some of the same life experiences and are at about the same stage of life. It's helped me to narrow down who I really pay attention to on the boards
Thanks Robbiej..wish you could've joined the pajama party this weekend. Nyadgal was the hostess with the mostess..she kept the bar stacked all weekend...God love her.

Robbie, is great that you started this thread.
It's been fun! DGrant is correct. Definitely much bonding over the daily drinks and reminiscences in this thread.
JFK, I was in 9th grade, changing classes when someone yelled it out to me.
During the Cuban Missle Crisis and living in Key West, overnight the beaches were bouvaced with soldiers. In the same amount of time hundreds of missles were positioned along the perimiter southern beaches poised to be fired across the Florida Straights to Cuba.
Daily air raid drills in Jr. High during that time, too.

Yes Robbie, a great thread. I'm so happy you started it.
It sounds like the weekend pajama party was a blast. I wish I could have joined in the fun but, alas, Nina had to work two shows per day over the weekend. I miss so much. maybe I shoudl check in during the early morning hours to see if you are all still partying when I get home.
Who remembers Dance Fever and it's host, Denny Terrio? The mans hair never moved no matter what he did.

You all had a pajama party!
Sh*t...I would have brought Dream Date and we could have played all night!
We drank...Kamikazies, Harvey Wallbangers, Bookers, Sloe Comfortable Screws and Tequila Sunrises. Oh yes...and Chocolate Martinis for breakfast thanks to Mom. Played a little Trivial Pursuit too.
I LOVE TRIVIAL PURSUIT!!!!
Damn...I miss everything!
Can't wait for the cable guy to install my dsl at home!
My Kenner Death Star playset got me thru a really rough 6th grade!
Eddie...I don't remember the Death Star, but I do LOVE your new Icon.
I still have my GI Joe with his footlocker...I now pretend the footlocker is a closet. Sometimes I like to put Ken in there with him too.

My partner used to play with his GIJoe and some silly putty . . . I think I'll stop there.
Funny, I've got Barbie and Midge shacking up in a vinyl closet.
I feel...so...traditional.
I had Barbie with Ken.
silly me.
Although, now they're all in one big box all together - Barbie, Midge, Cindy, Ken, Joe...hope they're all having fun.
did anyone have the gumby and pokey dolls?
you could adjust them into any position you liked.
its how I learned about..............ummm....nevermind
GI Joe and silly puddy..Hmmm..you may have to PM me on the specifics DGrant..LOL !!!!
Did anyone else have one of those Pretzel makers??? You put them on a conveyer belt and a light bulb would cook them and deposit them on the other side.
We also had a lollipop maker.
I had a rock tumbler that probably cost my parents $100 in electric bills.
Does anyone remember Angel Flight pants? for guys. They were high waisted and had a seam going down the front of them and SKIN tight. You could tell what religion we were by these things!! Not to mention, it made the package look HHHUUUUGGGE. You wore these, of course, with platforms! I think I still have some of mine in my closet at my mothers house!
