I'm appalled.
Welcome to our new day, folks.
Sacrifice? What's that?
Robbiej,
I have the utmost respect for veterans, but "Saving Private Ryan" is way too violent for me.
dammit! now i have to rent andy warhol's frankenstein again this year to get my fix of guts.
Papa, is that the one with the big scissors???
lol, ya caught me, pip. i don't actually remember it all that well having seen it late at night while in an altered state. in fact the only scene that still leaps out at me was one in which the creature was infused with some special ingredients.
I don't remember it all that well, either, but I do remember Igor cutting off a guy's head with these gigantic scissors and I think it was in that movie...Bizarre...
Actually, TheGa, the language is the thing that the affiliates are afraid of--not the violence that shows the realities of war, realities people need to see.
Our new "values" obsessed culture in this country can turn off RYAN and watch hot babes in spandex eat live roaches on FEAR FACTOR or bear any other flavor of human indignity for the almighty dollar. The idea of showing the reality of soliders is just too unpleasant. "Support Our Troops" means think of them as GI Joe dolls Anywhere But Here Defending Freedom. God forbid we should show that war is hell, not something reduced to a bumper sticker on the SUV. This is just part of the new right's influence, and of course, more critically, more evidence of the dumbing down of America.

the way i hear it is that george told dick to tell scalia to call eisner and tell him that if they showed ryan uninterrupted that it would surely lead to widespread panic in the streets and mass hysteria that american soldiers were being slaughtered on the beaches of france just as it had when it aired on veteran's day in 2001 and two days before veteran's day in 2002. he was further instructed to tell mike to inform the powers that be that should they insist upon airing it that they could count on not only record fines (high enough to make the nipple-gate fines seem like the penny ante stakes from whitewater-gate), but that desperate housewives , lost and monday night football would be taken from them and awarded to fox.
Uh, how come half the posts in this thread don't make sense in English?
hunh, i only made three posts. who are you libeling besides me, ga?
What does the conversation about scissors have to do with Saving Private Ryan?
Oh the FCC won't zap stations playing this movie:
Violence=good
Breasts=bad
what part of it didn't make sense in english?

You should learn to use upper case letters and some punctuation.
don't mock papa's obsession with e.e. cummings, Ga.
it won't be pretty if ya do!
hahaha.
i explained when i began posting here why i don't use capital letters. wanna read it? look it up on the main board. see back then there was no off topic board. amazingly enough though you're, i think, the first to have a problem with it. or at least the first to be so crass as to mention it without realizing that i have never and will never use them. not here.
as far as punctuation goes, the first sentence, while long (sorry to make you have to digest more than one soundbyte at a time) is grammatically correct. as is the rest of the post save for an extra space before a comma which is a result of formatting issue (i'm still a little weak on html). before casting aspersions on someone's literacy, you might want to pick up a copy of holt's elements of language. they have some fine remedial exercises which can help you bone up on the mechanics of sentence structure. see also the sections on punctuation.
robbie, where's my drink, bitch?
girl,
after last tuesday, you lucky i ain't bringing you hemlock!
hemlock, hennessey, there's a difference?
I don't have the inclination or presence to look up why someone would be so crass as to not use capital letters.
ga, is this gonna be a repeat of the breast cancer thread? 'member how well that one worked out for ya? you recall, don't you, the thread in which you were bashing people for "shilling", as you put it, a site trying to up their hit quota so as to be able to offer free mammograms? the dirty b*st*rds!
http://www.thebreastcancersite.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/CTDSites
I gave up on the breast cancer thread because fighting with those people was useless.
hunh, "those people" being some of the more well regarded and prolific members of the board? care for a shovel?
