My friend used to get CosmoGIRL! magazine and when we had sleepovers we would read through them and make fun of the stupid things.
One girl did a really awful scavenger hunt involving a tub of melted butter.
Just yell across the cafeteria, "Hey you! Come to the dance with me." That's probably your best bet.

OOOOOO . . . OOOOOO . . I know
Why not during lunch, you get all sexied up and play the music to "Flashdance" and dance around the cafeteria and end the song on his lap and say, "If you go to the dance with me, I will be your maniac on the dancefloor."
Stupid? Yes! But, that is the only thing I can come up with. So, sue me. haha.

This thread is hysterical. My only advice, which kind of echoes what others have said, is to make sure that your guy is cool with whatever it is that you end up doing to him or making him do. My husband, for example, is really not into the whole public display scene, so it wouldn't be a good idea to do something extreme with him.
Something kinda cute he did for me, though, is the following:
He took me to an arcade (we go every summer) and then used all of our tickets to "buy" a real ring he had them stash behind the counter. You could do the same thing and hide a "Will you go to TOLO with me?" inside a little box behind the display counter.

"What does TOLO mean anyway"
Ok, I'm glad I'm not the only one confused. I thought it was like a code we all are supposed to know or something.

Oooh, OR you could do the arcade thing, but then you could take him to one of the games and show him the high score table and have all the high scores together spell out "Will you go to TOLO with me".
Of course, this would require you to play the game obsessively for probably days before and get really good at it so you could have all the high scores and make sure that no one else plays and gets a good score, but hhey, they did it in a comic strip I used to read.

Now, because I am a Laguna Beach fan, why not do some sort of scavenger hunt and the last clue, leading him to you at your high school gym or bleachers or the stage at your school. You could be holding an envelope,m the final clue, and inside is a note that says "Will you go to TOLO with me?" You can be at the last destination with a balloon or something.
Can you tell I never went to my junior prom?

Posted: 10/16/06 at 6:54pmspeaking as a male.....JUST ASK.......no male wants a production done of being asked on a dat....just ask, cause with the time you are taking figuring out how to do it, some other gal IS asking.

and....let me add that for the Sadie hawkins dances when I was in high school, I went with who asked me, and not who was trying to decide how to ask me
of course I wanted the captain of the water polo team to ask me, but somehow back then we might have been not too welcomed had we shown up, lol

Just ask, but be fun about it.
Example:
You: So, _____, I look pretty hot today, huh?
Him: Err, yeah?
You: So I bet you totally want to go to TOLO with me, right?
Him: Duh
Even if he declines, you can just play it off as a joke and not have to be "that girl that got rejected."

Isn't there also sort of an unwritten rule that the person you're dating is going to go with you to the dance?
I never understood people elaborately asking their boyfriend/girlfriend to prom (or any other dance, for that matter).

"Haha yeah I could just ask but the point of the asking is to be clever!"
then, my dear you will not go with who you want as he'll already have been asked......
the point of asking is to get a damn date.......clever does not get a date

Elphaba: apparently, she's going to be asking her own boyfriend, and she doesn't have to worry about someone asking him first, 'cause there's an unwritten rule about that. So what the point of "being clever" is, I have no earthly idea.

Posted: 10/18/06 at 1:35amah.....I see, well that's even more confusing......I mean if he knows she's asking, why worry about being clever.....ARRGH, youth is definately wasted on the young.

Well, I decided to see what would happen if I just asked him. He was disappointed! Thanks a lot, guys!
I don't know WHY it's supposed to be clever, it just is.

he'll live, he won't be scared for life.......he won't run off and join the French Foreign Legion....and in 5 years you won't even remember his name.
And frankly if he's upset because he feels you were not creative in the way you asked him.........he has larger issues
