I really should do these things in advance, because by now, much of what I have to say has already been voiced more eloquently by other people.
Kitzarina: "Beautiful Day"...I don't want to dwell on negativity. You know it wasn't good. We know it wasn't good. I really wanted to like it too because it's one of my favorite U2 songs.
I think you could've done really well with something from the '80s instead, but I don't think it's just the song choice that was problematic. The tone was poor, the pitch was all over the place, your voice sounded thin in many parts, there was no spirit in it, you could hardly hear the accompaniment...it was just...well, everyone's allowed to have one bad song. "Moment In The Woods" was substantially better. I'm not familiar with Into The Woods, so it's a testament to your charisma that I was still pulled into this rendition, despite it being acapella and despite me not knowing this song. It's also great to see you doing an upbeat song, and I hope you keep switching up your song choices if you make it to the final round. "Someone To Watch Over Me" showed us what you're made of. You do best at these classic sultry songs, which is why your "Maybe This Time" was so good. I would say this is one of your best submissions yet. Subdued, restrained, good voice control, a range of vocal abilities and emotions...wonderful.
Spidey: "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own" is one of my favorite songs from How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb and I thought you'd do really well with it. Technically, your voice was fine. You were on-pitch (although it was iffy for some of the falsetto parts, I was pleasantly surprised), and your tone was pure, clear (aside from the static problems) and you know I like you. I had two problems with it: 1) It seemed to be lacking emotion, which I won't go into much because it's already been mentioned here. The song was written after Bono's dad died and first performed at his funeral, and I think really embodies the tense relationship they had. A subdued build-up and then unleashed anguish is what makes it work. 2) I really, really wish you'd sung the entire song and kept the ending, because for me, the climax and heart of the song is in the build-up of "Can you...hear me...when I SIIIIIING...you're the reason I sing...you're the reason...why...the opera is in me." It made me cry the first time I saw Bono do it live, and he was crying too. I mean this sincerely, I hope you record this song again and keep in the ending. I would love to add it to my iPod. Just do it, please?
"Not While I'm Around You" is one of the few Sondheim songs I know, and it was really ambitious of you to choose such a difficult song to sing...without accompaniment, to boot! No, it wasn't your best entry...maybe one of your weakest ones. But props to you for the guts. (Maybe you ought to re-record this with music to prove yourself to the critics?
) "Johnny B. Goode"...again, what I like about you are the challenging songs you choose every week, and one thing you must get credit for is your willingness to choose a variety of genres and try them out without apprehension. This was definitely your strongest song in the round. It was fun to listen to, although there's something slightly melancholy about your voice that was hard to shake. But it was pleasant.
Kerrie: I know I brow-beat you into submission to do "One" for this week. I blame myself entirely for being underwhelmed. I think you did all you could do with this song, but when I think about it, I've only ever really enjoyed "One" when it's done live, within the context of international unification to eliminate poverty in third world countries. I don't even care much for Bono's studio rendition. I won't penalize you for me not being blown away. It's still something I would probably add to my iPod because tonally, you sound beautiful, and I enjoy your voice. "Not A Day Goes By" didn't leave any impression on me. There were some minor pitch issues. Your voice was fine. It just bored me. It's repetitious and bland. "Defying Gravity"...nearly made me wet myself. Easily one of your top 3 best songs in this competition, and considering your submissions, that's really saying something. Some people said the tempo was too slow, but that didn't bother me. Thank God your voice wasn't drowned out by the piano (nice piano playing, Steven, BTW!). You soared. I got shivers. And best of all, I could tell you were having a good time singing it. It sounds like a lot of fun. F*cking fantastic. I hope you'll stick with doing another epic song like this if you make it to the final round, and I hope you also do a song that's substantially more upbeat than your previous entries. If there's one complaint with song choices so far, it's that you sound really sad. Ballads are your comfort zone, for sure, but surprise us with something more up-tempo!
Stephen, I'm going to wait until I get Cam's scores before I post them.
And I really wish she'd hurry up with her critique. Voting closes in two days. It took me 20 minutes to write mine. Surely she can get hers in tonight??
Everything sounds so good. >_<
Kerrie, I sent you a PM about this, but..
Holy freaking turd.
Holy freaking turd.
What does that online uncouth teen-speak mean in normal English??
I could think of something witty to say to you.
But I won't.
I just won't.
"Won't" or "can't"?
I now have 4 versions of Defying Gravity on my ipod, and one of them belongs to Kerrie.
Well that's a compliment!
Not if the other 3 belong to Shoshana.
Yes, Kerrie has made my iPod as well...which is something that should be applauded.
Kerrie made my iPod ages ago. She's dreamy!
Just wait until our version of TL5Y comes out. It's in production.
I am loving this rare Aigoo appearance, btw.

Ah, thankee thankee. My only aim is to please.
Kerrie made my iPod with a song from the Greg thread I remember...however, this has been a late addition (not that the others were bad? >_<)...this isn't going well...
Looking forward to L5Y! Sounds excitingggg!
Quit teasing us Patronus!
Having heard Stephen's "Shiksa Goddess," I can promise that it's something worth waiting for
Not if the other 3 belong to Shoshana.
I swear I was going to say that and bit my tongue.

I think all the judges with mic capabilities on their computer should be obligated to do a number for the final show.
I just wish that Cam's original entry hadn't been deleted from the annals of the web. I seem to remember it being something indeed
::blushes::
Awwww shucks, Kitzy.
Our L5Y plans revealed!
And I can honestly say that I have never in my life been called dreamy. This night will go down in histoy.
And thank you thank you thank you for all the DG compliments.
Haha...my ipod lacks Sho. Actually it's at 5 now. And still no Sho.
Errrrm, where's the Shiksha Goddess at? One of my guilty pleasures from L5Y.
"I think all the judges with mic capabilities on their computer should be obligated to do a number for the final show."
Sing it, Tiff.

Never fear, Kitz! What's lost forever on the web will live forever on my hard drive.
I was thinking that next week could be a catch-up week for the newbies on all the highlight songs from the previous rounds. I hope you guys will help me compile a comprehensive list! (The song choices thus far are in post 3, aside from the round 1 submissions.)
The Shiksa Goddess has been submitted to a select few. I need to re-record it actually as I've been actually working with my voice and developed it a bit more. I'll do that eventually and when I am feeling absolutely ready to be mocked, I'll send it.
I don't have the strongest singing voice, so I try and make it up by really acting a song out but nonetheless I am really self conscious about my voice.
Hi, btw Marlene. You are one poster who always intriques me and i don't think we've ever conversed directly.
Coming soon to the Gershwin Theatre:
My first entry was something to induce vomitting kitzy dear..
And Tiff I will not be submitting a performance for the last show.. Just wont happen dear.. One would think you have endured enough ear bleeding to last a life time..
Just for the record, Cam's lurking on here.
Nice timing. Here I was staring at my phone going, "You're lurking while I'm paying long distance text messaging fees?" and you beat me to posting.
(ETA: Ohhh...what happens in Seattle, stays in Seattle.
)
BTW, Kitz, the Photoshopping is getting better and better!
