Re-reading My Sister's Keeper, one of my favorite books. It's seriously heart-wrenching.
"It's great that you can listen and be a shoulder to someone, but what about when someone doesn't need a shoulder? What if they need the arms or something like that? You can't just sit there and put everybody's lives ahead of yours and think that counts as love. You just can't. You have to do things."

Oooh, ThankstoPhantom, Michael Cunningham is one of my all-time favourite authors. Have you read anything else by him?

I just started Dragonfly in Amber, by Diana Gabaldon. It's the one that comes after Outlander, which I stayed up way too late reading every night!

I always make fun of my mom for refusing to read certain books on the basis that they're hardcover, and therefore too difficult to read in bed, but I have to say... the copy I had of Outlander was GIGANTIC. I'm surprised I didn't sprain a wrist holding it up. But it was so good. Lots of fighting and running. And sex. Good stuff.

Up in Lost, it wasn't so much the BD/SM as the idea that Beauty was essentially raped to be awakened that bothered me.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

Bridge to Terabithia

It was my favorite book as a kid and I've been wanting to read it again since the movie came out. It's the same beat up copy I read as a kid, with the yellowed pages and my kid-writing signature on the inside cover.

I finished Pynchon's AGAINST THE DAY, and read Edward St. Aubyn's MOTHER'S MILK. Nest up: I don't know. Reading the Pynchon took a lot out of me, my attention span has really dwindled. I might need something light and quick. Maybe one of the Ian Rankin mysteries I picked up last year. Anybody read Rankin?

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. I'm halfway through it, & I'm totally loving it.
"Some stories don't have a clear beginning, middle, and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, take the moment & making the best of it, without knowing what's going to happen next. Delicious ambiguity."

While on vacation, I finished Gilead, as beautiful a book as I have ever read. Thanks to touchmeinthemorning for the gentle nudge to stick with it.

I am in the midst of two books now: Red Carpets and Other Banana Skins by Rupert Everett, a witty and engaging memoir, and Marcus Borg's The Heart of Christianity, which I am reading for a Lenten study at church. I dig me some Marcus Borg.
