Sarah Palin, the half term Governor who quit because the job was too difficult and she would rather make money than serve those who elected her,Thanks Bush for Bin Laden's Death. Yeah, Sarah thanks the man who happened to be President when the USA was attacked and gave up hunting for Bin Laden because it was too much work. These F*$#@*& LAZY REPUBLICANS who are cowards and lie for a living make me sick!

I have a friend who's one of those unsettling militaristic uber-conservatives. Yesterday he went on his Facebook and said that he didn't want to 'see any politicians taking the credit for this.'

If this had happened four years ago he'd have been falling all over himself to praise Bush. Makes my blood boil.

I know you. I know you. I know you.

I think I said this earlier in the thread, but I'll repeat. Obama and his inner circle showed an incedible amount of discipline and patience in making this happen. This took months, and there were no leaks. None. There is nothing about the Bush/Cheney administration that would incidate that they could have been so disciplined. The more I learn the details of what transpired over the last year, the more impressed I am with Obama and his team.

Bush and his administration stated for YEARS that he was just a propaganda figure and unimportant. Basically go back into the mindset of 9/10 when there were so many close calls of getting to him.

How in the hell did he not only live that out in the open but that compound showed every possible feature for suspicion? How does a place with a 7th foot surrounding fence somehow be behind in every basic 21st century technology feature? It is going to be fascinating how this affects our relations with Pakistan. Their President is a buffoon and even the good pols in the country have to cater to the military and ISI who had to know something. Did I mention the rest of the country is a social welfare nightmare of poverty and they have nuclear weapons?

EDIT: White House has stepped back publicly from reports it would release OBL death photos.

"Did I mention the rest of the country is a social welfare nightmare of poverty"

So is most of the non-Western world.

Does Pakistan actually have social welfare?

I also have to add my huge respect to the team that pulled this off.

When there was so much possibility for things to go wrong and so little actually did, there were obviously some extremely robust, cool and capable people involved with this.

That's an understatement. To have actually gone in and achieved this so successfully is almost beyond comprehension.

^^^^^^
I am aware of that, but how many of those countries have a nuclear weapon. For all of our foreign aid to Pakistan, it goes nowhere beyond the military and ISI.

To reiterate what Besty, Craig, and Orangeskittles were discussing regarding the burial of Osama Bin Laden in accordance to Islamic customs, putting him into sea is acceptable, though rare. Certain provisions must be met like the requirement of placing the body in a clay vessel and putting in area of the ocean where it won't be easily desecrated by ocean predators like pirates.

His body was offered to his family back in Saudi Arabia, who had long disowned him, according to news reports. But they refused, knowing full well his burial site at any accessible point would end up becoming a site for matyrdom and terrorism. (I'm not Muslim, by the way)

actually scripps, it's not that difficult to believe that these guys pulled this off. the naval special warfare development group (devgru), formerly seal team six, is one of the most terrifyingly effective groups of military operators ever created. the reality is that they have been doing jobs like this all over the world for years now. this one just happened to get press due to the target. but with good intel, it's not even fair for whoever the target of these boys happens to be.

i mean to start they are navy seals. 75% of those who begin seal training fail. of the 25% who make it through, only the very best are selected for devgru. they generally have a three year tenure in devgru due to the almost non-stop training/ooperational tempo (about 300 days a year). they are, without a doubt, the baddest men on the planet.

given the intel they had on this place? the time to build a full scale mock-up and rehearse for a few weeks? even if murphy's law reared his ugly head, osama didn't stand a chance.

Further to Papa's point, this photo accompanied the New York Times article yesterday, with the following caption:

A Seal member preparing to capture top insurgents in 2007 near Fallujah, Iraq. Members of Team 6 are the elite of the elite.

I think this demonstrates why DevGru is considered "The Elite of the Elite."

and not just for that, either. it was a member of team 6 that predicted the exact manner, location and result of the 1983 beirut embassy bombing six months before it happened and suggested specific protocols to prevent it (which would have been devestatingly efective). he was, obviously, ignored.

Yes Papa. If only President Carter had listened to him and stopped that bombing.

Am I right? That one was Carter's (1977-1981) fault, right? Or was it Clinton's (1993-2001)? Sometimes it's hard to know.

There's an interesting article in the NY Times today about information they're getting from documents and computers seized in the raid.

It dispels the notion held for that last few years that Bin Laden was no longer active in Al Qaeda's activities.
