hey fans...I did not see the last skaters last evening...didnt see Czisny.
I thought Liang should be in first, then Hughes, then Meisner. Liang's program was great and she skated better than she has in years...I actually got a bit teary!
Meisner's short music is a dirge...she doesnt have the personality to make it exciting. She was good, but left some on the ice.
That said, there is no Michelle, and we may not see another like her in many years to come. She had everything...she was the Patti LuPone of figure skating :)
(and Dottie, I adore Nari Nam and wondered what happened to her - so many skaters dont make it from one year to the next. Was so glad to see her skating doubles...tho you spoiled the outcome of the short for me a bit :))
Me, too!! Always have, always will.
A friend of mine in DC is even more enthusiastic as I am and we'll be watching together tomorrow night.
Doodle, the long program is tonight (live), so I'm not sure if they'll be showing the pair's short programs. Glad you know who Nari Nam is, not many people remember her.
Czisny skated beautifully last night, but she missed her triple lutz. If she hadn't she definitely would have been in the top 3.
There's some promising talent in the junior ladies category.
The pairs competition was good, but after listening to Jon Baldwin and his "supposed" mugging in Russia, I just don't particularly care for him all that much.

Evan had a good night, and deserves his spot - but I wish he showed a little more precise connection to the music. Johnny definitely does THAT, but didn't have a good night.
I'm in love with Ryan Bradley - and that was the highlight of the night for me.
Pretty interesting competition. I wish Johnny would stop crying all the time though.
My highlight was last night, with Czisny's skate.

Evan totally rocked tonight. I was rooting against him because I'm sick of the blatant homophobia displayed by the USFS, especially with ESPN2 constantly going to his "girlfriend" Tanith.
I feel bad for Johnny, but that program is just awful. I hate his SP and his supposedly more butch look, but his LP is just a mess. No connection to the music, spazztic choreography at times, and just boring.
The ladies were meh. I was hoping there would be a way that we'd get both Alissa and Bebe on the World team. Is it too much to ask for two headcases to get their act together?
Oh, and John Baldwin is definitely creepy. Rena is his meal ticket and she's suffering from some sort of mail-order bride syndrome.

"I wish Johnny would stop crying all the time though."
Why?
VIET, I agree with everything you said!
When I saw Johnny crying, I took it more as it was a release from the pressure he was putting on himself as opposed to him "losing" the title. He seemed very gracious towards Evan during his interview. Ryan Bradley was definitely my favorite of the evening. I happened to fall asleep on my sofa so I missed Evan skate.
My summation of the proceedings:
Best costume: Kimmie Meissner
Best Music - Katy Taylor [Tchaikovsky's Theme and Variations](if she executed all of the elements, it could have been an exciting program);
Best Name - Naomi Nari Nam & Themistocles Leftheris
Best Overall Program - Alissa Czisny
Best ?? - Ryan Bradley [his program was quite entertaining]

Dottie - Evan was quite exciting - but as I said, to my eye anyway, he was skating along with the music, not TO it (if that makes any sense at all!)
And Ryan - what a CUTIE! And I don't just mean his looks - it's his attitude and personality, as well.
DG, Ryan's program just made me smile!! I loved listening to the crowd throughout and am now sorry I didn't set my VCR as I had for all of the other events.
I'll admit that Evan is a talented skater, but he just leaves me cold.
DG-I'll pm you

Dottie I agree about Evan. He was technically perfect but I didn't detect much artistry in his skate last night.
I didn't realize that Alissa actually won the free skate last night. Good for her!!
Just a reminder that World's are on tonight and tomorrow on ESPN or ESPN2. No national coverage this year. Check out www.usfsa.org for schedule. I know the pairs, men's and ice dancing competitions are complete.

Thanks for the reminder, Dottie.
Is anyone watching the Ladies short program? Mao Asada from Japan reminds me a lot of Michele Kwan stylistically. Although she had one mistake, her SP was quite beautiful.

Hughes was very solid. Not a big fan of that program, but she did it cleanly.
Poor Mao. She has claims a perfect skate for her free skate. I'm sure she'll do so, too.

And I can't get over Czisny's spins. No one touches them.
Hughes just seems so clunky on the ice, especially after following Asada.
Czisny is a beautiful skater, but extremely inconsistent.

okay...i agree that sasha cohen has beautiful lines...but she is so devoid of feeling and she is so just...aggravating.
right now she is better than meissner, but really, ACTING?!
HAS ANYONE SEEN THAT GOD AWFUL Commercial she did? She cant even read a line.
Skingdom out.

Alissa Czisny in my opinion, if she worked on her jumps could be the best. I mean the BEST.
skingdom out.
Ladies final on now; ESPN. Unfortunately every break features a commercial for Marshalls and the ever annoying voiceover from Wendy Malick. Her voice just gets on my nerves.
I used to figure skate.
Very Pleased to see this thread is alive and well!
Here are my thoughts.
1) I LOVE Emily Hughes and thought that her LP was MUCH better than Carolina Kostner or Yakari Nakono, and I thought she should have been ahead of them overall.
2) I was very happy for Miki Ando! I felt that she could have had the bronze medal back in 2004 over Michelle Kwan and am very happy that her first world medal is a gold! I thought she was DONE after the last Olympics! Very Happy I was wrong. I think that to many people Mao is "favorite" of the two and many people will think she should have won, but come on Miki landed a 3 lutz-3 loop combination!
3) I'm glad that Mao Asado and Kim medaled. I do think that Mao is the better of the two, and I know she would have won the whole thing if she didn't single the tail end of her combo in the SP. Who knows, if she could have won if she doubled it?
Also, it's nice to see that these two girls DO have artistry to their skating, unlike Miki Ando when she first appearded, or other young jumping beans!
4) I'm sad for Kimmie but she didn't have a disappointing free skate, so I don't think they necessarily GAVE it away so to speak. However, in the old day being the reining WC might have given her a higher position.
5) I'm VERY happy for Shen and Zhou! Peter Curruthers was right when he said they rank up there with the Protopopov's and the G & G, because they do!!!!!! I just wished that they could have skated this way at the last Olympics and bumped T & M to the silver. For the record, Shen and Zhou deserved silver at those Olympics. I do hope they continue, but I think they deserve a break. I remember commentators repeatedly saying they were retiring after the 2002 Olympics, and I have no doubt that they communist Chinese skating federation made them continue......Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they did, but now they are entitled to a bit of a break......especially since China would have won without them!
