Baldwin is creepy and I wish he'd just leave the sport already. From the cheesey public marriage proposal to his supposed "mugging" incident at the world's a year or two ago, I just don't get him.
Supportivemom- the flexible one you are probably talking about is Caroline Zhang.
And yes, John Baldwin is very, very creepy.
hahahaha, OMG! What a result for Man's final in US Championship!
I am not a fan of Lysacek. But I simply cannot stand Weir. So I am just happy to see him beat by ...nothing.
before the men's final score was announced, i turned to my partner and said, "this is going to be really close. maybe it will be a tie!" a tie??? unfortunately the tie went to the wrong runner. i'm proud of johnny for bringing his skating back up to world-class level. good luck to the US men at worlds!
I'm more confused than ever by the scoring system. If the best score in the free skate is the one that counts, why bother even computing the short program scores into the final scores at all? Why not simply use the short program to figure the order of how the free skate will be skated and then, just wipe the slate clean? Why all the calculations down to 100th of a point, if in the end it's meaningless anyway? It should have been a tie. Johnny got screwed.
The flexible skater I saw was not Asian. She had brown hair and looked very all-American. I'll have to look her up. I was surprised at the Men's final. Personally, I think Johnny has much more artistry than Evan. Evan seemed to just skate from skill to skill, Johnny emotes. I loved the short program from that Abbot guy who was choreographed by Kurt Browning. The choreography was so original. The Carriere guy reminded me of Steve Carrell (?) on ice. Overall- I think we're sending a great team to worlds. I just wish I would have caught more of the competition- just having a very busy weekend!
if i had won the competition with a tied score, i would have pulled my competitor up on the winner's platform with me. but that's just me.
Oh my. I'm just watching it now since I dvr'd it to watch the SAGS.
Johnny just said on camera that he does not like Evan as a person. Not necessary! oy.
Yeah, I saw the commentators interviewing the two of them. Like they said, the interview was as cold as ice!
I'm so tired of Tosca. Out of all the music out there, must the skaters rehash the same music over and over again?! I gave the edge to Johnny tonight.
Johnny's got much more artistry. I'm sick of Evan's arms flailing about. He looks like if he winds them around any more he's going to take off into the air.
I would have given the edge to Weir. Even with the ugly costumes!
I think in the old way of scoring Johnny would have come out on top. But this new scoring system does still seem to favor the jumps. Although, i felt Johnny's quad was better than Evan's. Evan skated with more speed, but Johnny had more style. I wish they could have tied like in the old days. It just doesn't seem fair. It will be interesting to see what they both do at Worlds where the competition is big into quads.
After watching the competition last night, I realized how much I missed Peggy Flemming's commentary. Even though Dick Button was there, it was like they put a muzzle on him, because he didn't seem to say anything. I just wanted that blonde lady (Sandra Bezik?) to shut up.

Weir was robbed. This scoring system doesn't allow enough points for artestry.
If there's ANYONE who's not going to watch the superbowl,( like me,) there's plenty of skating on today.
ESPN-4:30-7pm, Grand Prix
ESPN-7-10 pm, Europeans
jane, the nationals EXHIBITON was supposed to be on NBC this afternoon. turns out they aired it YESTERDAY!? NBC is really getting on my nerves. well, at least EUROPEANS are on tonite ...
Cturtle, I knew the exhibitions were on this weekend, yet I had no desire to watch. What's happening to me?!
turtle- I know! That schedule you posted for me (it WAS you, wasn't it?) was so wrong!
Dottie-it's a phase-you'll get over it!
Thanks, Jane2. It's kind of like, "take two aspirin and call me in the morning."
Katrina Hacker- that's the girl who was so flexible. She has a lot of potential! She's from Boston and has 2 men as her coaches. Her spirals were beautiful!
I'm just watching the Grand Prix now. Why are the bleachers practically empty? I notice that in a lot of skating events-no one attends!
