I love Gaga, but here's the thing. She's had two albums and an ep and she tours and carries on like she is Princess F@#kin' Diana.
I was once talking to a record producer in Joe Allen when Gaga first broke out. He said she is a VERY EXPENSIVE act to produce. He said that she has a lot of overhead and the minute she stops selling well she will run into problems.
Her arena tours are way too lavish for such a new artist. Her weekly nut is massive and she is still a fledgling artist who has had international success quickly. She has overexposed herself.
Katy Perry toured on the cheap and kept ticket prices low and cut corners to make her show cute and affordable. Gaga went all out. She out priced her fans and doesnt really have the cache yet to command such prices.

She needs to be careful why she cancels or she will end up having to build a children's playground in Central Park.

I really wanted to see her live
I do think that Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera both canceled their tours because of poor tickets sales, but Gaga was selling pretty well, her shows were nearly sold out.

Gaga's shows were "nearly sold out" in much the same way Madonna's US tour was.
Wishing her a full recovery! I have to agree, the tour came too far after the album; I had little desire to see it.
The Born This Way album had questionable sales to begin with, garnered few solid hits, and had absolutely no staying power or momentum. There was nothing to gebnerate ticket sales in the states.

If you see clips on youtube of her south american and european dates-- the stadiums are halfway full---lots of empty seats in the stands... even down on the floor.
No way near Madonna's attendance record.

Lol Namo it was only you luv who thought Madonnas tour in the US was not sold out, even with pictures from the stage of every show in the US and the arenas and stadiums showing them sold out
Gaga's show is very expensive and it's well documented that the South American leg was a financial disaster with half empty stadiums even after giving tickets away in a buy one get one free offer and dropping ticket prices down to 16 dollars. She had canceled unsold stadium dates in Europe and moved them in to small arenas and here in the UK played to a half empty stadium in Twickenham on the second night, Russia failed to sell, French dates were downscaled and other European dates suffered the same fate. The tour in America was not even close to sold out, the night of every concert she did was showing many many blocks of seats empty on the day of the show, the media picked up on this.
Honestly though i dont think it's her fault. Namo is right that she waited far to long to take the show to the North America after the album. On top of that Live Nation and her management booked her way to many dates and in Europe put her in huge stadiums she never had a chance of filling. The bubble has burst a little on her and she needs more releases before she can become an artist that fill s that many dates in venues so big. I think in future they will think twice when scheduling her next tour.
Also the pictures of her today going to Starbucks in a wheelchair are ridiculous, like she does not have people to go out and get coffee for her. She does herself no favors

"even after giving tickets away in a buy one get one free offer and dropping ticket prices down to 16 dollars."
There's no "even after" to it. That's the very definition of a financial disaster right there.
And as an employee of an agency that was the lucky recipient of Madonna's day of show free tickets, I have no doubt that every one of those seats in those photos was filled. But there was nothing "sold" about that "out."
