What she said to George was unnecessary, but I whole-heartedly agree with her.

I think Meredith is fighting to stay alive. The next episode will probably start with her realizing that she is not ready to die and she will wake up.

I think most of us agree with Izzie. She can definitely die and come back to life. My dad has a few patients who have done that multiple times. Who was the other guy besides Denny? (I just started watching this season).

It will definately take more than half of the episode for her to come back. They're not going to let us off that easy.
Did anyone else find Izzie's "I believe" speech laughable?
I did, I did!!
all i could think about during her "i believe" speech was spring awakening.
Ok, I'm gonna totally date myself here, my first thought was "I believe the children are our future..."
But seriously, what was that 'I Believe'-ness? It's like one person was writing Izzy all fine and normal (well- as normal as Izzy drilling a man's head can be) and then someone else came in and dropped in a bunch of 'I Believes' in there. And *especially* the whole telling George that Callie is a mistake thing- what was that? I was feeling it ok until the I Believe, and then the cheese of the last couple of lines.
Who was the other guy besides Denny? (I just started watching this season).
He was the explosives expert who was blown up in the hospital in the post-Superbowl episode last year. Meredith was flirting with him, and then he died.

Surprisingly enough, Shonda Rhimes wrote this episode. I can't believe she put those words into Izzie's mouth.

If they are going to kill anyone off...my vote would be for Isaiah Washington. I can't STAND Burke's character and honestly he made me sick with the whole thing with T.R. Rumor had it that his contract was up the end of this year and it was a possibility
(re: Shonda writing this ep) I know! I was trying to figure out if Shonda was trying to pass the voiceover torch to Izzy from Meredith or something (I can totally hear Mer in v.o. spouting off some "I believe that even though this year has sucked, we'll still be ok" crap), but whatever that I believe stuff was supposed to be, it just wasn't.
I believe I used to love this show a lot more in seasons one and two.
I believe that I now watch GA because it i on after Ugly Betty, whereas I used to watch Betty because it was on before GA.
I believe that ER handled the 'very special trauma episode' much better back in the day.
I believe that little girl was just plain creepy.

I'm wondering if next weeks episode is going to start where tonight's left off or if it will start out as a Grey's Anatomy episode normally would with a voiceover. In that case, will Meredith be the one doing the voiceover?

She did the voiceover tonight while she was in the midst of drowning, so I'd imagine she could handle it from the beyond!

I was wondering if she was going to do the voiceover for tonight's episode, and she did. So I would assume she would do the next one as well.

Oh, Shonda. What are you doing to your lovely little show? I just started watching three weeks ago, but thanks to my mother's DVD and the glorious things you can find illegal-like on the internet, I've already watched every episode. Now, with this three-arch story line, I'm almost wishing I didn't start watching. This is friggin' ER with the tank all over again. Shows do not need to have this much forced, over the top drama to be successful and interesting. In fact, I liked this show much, much more in the beginning before all this crap started. I mean, I was actually laughing hysterically at the scenes for next week and their ridiculously soap opera-like corresponding voiceover.

Ughhh. Here's my opinion:
The show used to be good. Really good. Until it got popular. And now, Shonda seems to think that the sun shines out of her ass. She's probably going to blog about how Izzie had to say that speech and how much it showed about her character and blah di blah but seriously Shonda? The writing at the end was soooooooooooo bad.
And come ON. The scene were Meredith was dead was sooooooo stupid. I know, I know it happens all the time but seriously? SERIOUSLY! The dream sequence stuff is just bad writing... poorly done, soap opera stuff. (Although, I did scream when I saw Denny. Bc I love him. LOVE. him.)
And the previews for next week... seriously seemed like an SNL skit making fun of Grey's Anatomy. ughhhhh.
Shonda needs a wake up call. Someone needs to slap her across the face and make her realize that this episode was NOT that great and the show is going down hill if she doesn't wake up quickly! Killing off Meredith would just be stupid... she doesn't need to do that to make the show unpredictable and suspenseful... if she kills off Meredith, to me it would be more about her proving how unpredictable her writing is, more than doing what's best for the show.
What's interesting is that while I haven't loved the past two episodes, I was fine with everything this season up until now. I really think they just overdid this three-episode arc with sweeps going on. They tried to be bigger than big because that is what's expected from February sweeps episodes. Hopefully when the show returns after the hiatus, things will quiet down and return to normal.

Funny anecdote: part two. I thought it was nothing, but after tonight's episode... when I met Kali last week, it was on a Friday, immediately after I saw the episode where Mer falls. So I say to her, "They can't kill off Meredith, obviously. Otherwise it would just be called 'Anatomy'." Kali, of course, responds with, "Haha, you never know."
Wow. Now... it could happen! I'm kinda digging MereDead though. Oh, and I found this amusing. I read this on spoilerfix.com a few weeks ago:
An intern is not gentle when stitching a young man's arm.
I assumed it would lead to a law suit or some other kind of problem, but... it was just a minute scene of Christina's. Kinda cracks me up that it was listed as a spoiler.

Alright. I have to chime in now that I'm able (I was so pissed to not be able to get online last night when the show was over! lol)
First of all, stop with the killing off Burke thing cause you hate Isaiah Washington. Just leave it be. Seriously.
Second of all, Shonda's blog and all the spoilers have never said that a major character will be killed off. They've merely said that someone we hold near and dear to our hearts will die. That doesn't mean 'killed off'. So technically, Meredith will be clinically dead and be brought back.
PS Ellen Pompeo just signed a new contract so no, she's not being 'killed off.'
Also, yes, Meredith started out the narration in the show last night. However, it was also before she was all hypothermia girl in the water. She was bobbing out of the water and then her voice over faded away as she went under. I would assume next week's voice over would be Derek. It hasn't always been Meredith (though it is her the majority of the time). There was the big episode where Cristina basically implodes and HAS to tell the chief about what she and Burke have been doing with the surgeries and *she* narrated the whole episode.
Alright, now I'll get off my high horse and actually talk about the episode.
I knew a lot of it was coming... mostly because I couldn't wait a whole week and I *had* to know, so I've been reading the spoilers and the blogs and whatnot (actually, I'm reading Shonda's blog at the same time as I'm writing this -- how's that for multi tasking? lol), but I still found myself saying "are you KIDDING me?!" at the end of the episode.
I liked where Shonda went with Izzie's little speech. Mostly because it was so typically Izzie. It was a little trite, but Izzie was supposed to be speaking off the cuff. And do I hate her for what she said to George about Callie? Absolutely. But again, so typically Izzie. She doesn't think before she speaks sometimes and she never holds her tongue. She says what she has to say and that's that. I respect her character for that..... but hopefully, George will too, cause it looks like Izzie's outspokenness is taking a toll on their friendship.
However, what kind of strong friendship would they have if she faked support and didnt think she could out and out tell him she thought he made a mistake?
Moving on.
Derek in the hallway with Sloan. I loved that moment. It made me cry. Mostly because the one constant underlying aspect to Sloan is that, despite the fact that he knows Derek will never forgive him for what he did, Derek is his "family". He loves Derek. And he did some horrible, horrible things to Derek. But because he loves Derek, he'll be there for him anyway. Yeah, Sloan can be a complete asshole. But I think underneath it all, he's really not as bad as we all think. And c'mon, who doesn't want to see more of McSteamy in a towel? God bless Sloan and God bless that tiny little towel.
Loved the moment with Alex telling Addison he'd notice if she was missing. I was waiting for him to say it when she first mentioned it, but that was too easy and Alex needs to think about something like that before it occurs to him to say it. Addison's been a little misguided lately and while I dont know that I'd love to see them get together (Peyton Place, much?) I do like the dance they've been doing.
Speaking of Addison, she just about killed me when she walked in and saw Meredith. The expression on her face and the "don't do this to us Meredith. Don't do this" showed just how much she's grown. I'm really starting to love her character.
Back to the interns, I can understand Cristina's whole "she's my person" thing about Meredith. I don't think Cristina's ever had a true best friend before. Someone she would, well, call to help her drag a body across the floor, or share big news like this with. Cristina doesn't go about anything typically (hello, who WOULDNT wear that 3 carat ring? Ring person or NOT. I'm still stewing over that one -- but it's so her) so it makes sense that she wouldnt know how to process not yet being able to share her news with Meredith. Likewise, not being able to be the one to tell her because Derek already knows. It makes sense to me, but then again, Im a little twisted lol (or twisty. whichever)
I like that they showed the depth of all the interns -- especially Alex and Cristina, who almost never get emotional -- both throughout the show and most especially when they were waiting for news on Meredith. And I really liked that Izzie hugged Cristina. Mostly because they've never been terribly close (the way Meredith and Cristina are) and well, Cristina doesn't exactly scream 'hug me!' (remember the episode where all the patients wanted to hug her? that was all I thought of)
The only thing I didnt like was how they incorporated Denny and Dylan. That seemed too over the top to me. We'll see how that plays out next week though.
If in Heaven you don't excel, you can always party down in hell...
Aw, I am SO missing my show while abroad. I miss watching the episodes as they unfold, as opposed to on iTunes.
This episode...wow. I can't decide whether I liked it or not. Just...wow.
Some thoughts:
-Shonda can't possibly think that killing off Meredith would be good for the show. Ratings would definitely go down (even though I'd stick with it, but hey), and there's no way they could be able to just snap back to normal life after that. The rest of the season would revolve around her death. And that would get so old, fast.
-The little girl? CREEPY AS HELL. What is up with that? Are we going to see some kind of explanation...or is she just some random kid? I get that she's a metaphor for Meredith but it seems stupid to stick her in these episodes for that reason only.
-I was so happy when Sloan sat down next to Derek and comforted him. I love when they give Sloan these scenes, because it shows that he's actually a human being. Same with Cristina and Alex. Two people who usually don't get emotional break down a little bit. So awesome.
-Alex/Addison! Yay!
-Izzie saving that guy was a nice break from all the drama and death and stuff
-How is it that all of the surgeons/interns can be with Meredith when there's this gigantic disaster going on? Haha.
Oh man...it needs to be next Thursday right now!
How is it that all of the surgeons/interns can be with Meredith when there's this gigantic disaster going on?
Seriously! Alex has a couple of bulletin boards full of Polaroids of injured folks in their very hospital, yet every attending is in the room with Meh... and isn't Addison an ob/gyn slash neonatal surgeon? Cause I'm thinking if I've just been pulled out of freezing water and my body temp is 81 (?) degrees, an ob/gyn is not the first doctor I'd need to be working on me.
And plus- when was the last time Meh did an actual surgery? This week she's all drowned, last week she's at a triage site but she's just babysitting that creepy little girl, week before that she's dealing with her mother, week before that OMG McDreamy Yelled at Me and so I'm Going Home in the Amish episode, etc... Remember the Meh from the past, who was actually in heart surgery (and maybe nicking the heart with her fingernail, but still she was actually in surgery) and such, whatever happened to her?
I Believe that with as much as I can't stand Meh I did still like this show, but I Believe this 3 episode sweeps stunt is killing off some of the like for me.

The other dead guy is Kyle Chandler, who played the bomb squad guy who died in the episode whenre the patiend had an unexploded bazooka shell in his chest. It was during a time when Meredith and Mcdreamy were semi-broken up, and there was definite chemistry between her and the bomb squad guy. Then, at the end of the second part of the two-part episode, he exploded!
Seriously! Alex has a couple of bulletin boards full of Polaroids of injured folks in their very hospital, yet every attending is in the room with Meh.
I think we can assume that there are more attendings in all of Seattle Grace besides the four that are featured on Grey's Anatomy
I do agree it was a little obnoxious to 911-page all of the interns. It's not like there's anything they can do. I do think they had the right to know, and perhaps that might not leave them in a state to do anything else right now, but...I don't know. Seems like an awful waste of resources.
And my friend made a very funny (yet true) point - Meredith always has to make everything about her. She was drunk during the train accident, took over holding the bomb, and became Ferry crash victim priority #1. I chuckled at that.
And I LOVE Addison more and more with each episode, and hate to admit that I'm starting to not be totally opposed to the idea of her and Alex, despite my vehemently being against it at first.
I don't know.
I think it was the weakest episode I've seen. I'm not buying the Meredith in limbo dreamworld thing. It looks cheesy. And the writing WAS weak in Izzie's speech. It started off fine and I thought it was going to end and make a nice moment and then it KEPT GOING and you could tell Shonda was searching for things to say. Less would've been more there. I just think this whole big event is not really working well for me in the show. I'm just waiting for it to be over, so they can get back to the characters, the great simple writing, and the always superb acting. One of the best acting casts on television in a long time.
All I was thinking about after that episode was that I'm glad to see Denny again!!
