Bella, I agree with you 100%. It's a good show in its quieter, more human episodes. The gimmicks wear thin.

I am very close to dropping this show. What started out as a smart, funny, and truthful "little" drama has become an overblown, manipulative mess with warnings every week that this is "the show you can't miss." I've seen many critics saying that Grey's "jumped the shark" with the wedding proposals. When Izzie pulled out a drill last night, I just muttered. The human dynamics were plenty for us on that show. We dont need exploding ferry boats and manipulative cliff hangers every week.

When Meredith woke up to Denny, I was like, puhlease-Six Feet Under did that first and better.

Wake up Grey's writers! Get back to basics!

I think we can assume that there are more attendings in all of Seattle Grace besides the four that are featured on Grey's Anatomy .

I know, you would think, right? But apparently those are the only four choices that the Chief has to take over for him when he retires, (what with his "It's you in the chair eventually" to Bailey because of the 'slim pickings' among his attendings), so I think they might very well be the only attendings at Seattle Grace. :) Though it still doesn't explain what the ob/gyn was needed for.

I watch House, and Law & Order, I should not be caught up on medical inconsistencies, and usually I can let them slide on GA too, but it's like this three episode arc is just bringing out the worst instead of the best of this show. Hopefully Shonda has something good planned for part 3.

OH MY GOOD LORD!!!!!!!
i TiVo-ed it and just watched.. i think i died. i am dead and typing right now.
oh my goodness.
i cried. really. and i'm not a tv crier by nature, either.
this is nuts. i am freaking out.

okay, i took a breath. phew.
so what do you guys think? is she really dead? because i have a few ideas.. 1) in the next week's previews, it said 'COULD she be lost forever'.. COULD does not mean she IS. idk, play on words. 2) she could be a medical miracle and just come back. 3) she could REALLY die and just be the narrator from now on and look over everyone and such.. 4) in "heaven" or wherever that was at the end of the episode, she could look back upon her life and have to decide whether she stays or returns to earth.

wow. thoughts?

Of course she's not dead---unless they make her the resident ghost of the series (hmmm, that might work)

Unless they're bumping up Kate Burton to a regular, the show's called Grey's Anatomy, and she's Meredith Grey, so, unfortunately she's going to live.
I'm relatively new to the show, so I didn't notice the stuntiness of it. I watch ER, so I'm used to the stunt factor.
I could really do with less of Ellen Pompeo's blank stares, and give me more Chandra Wilson, Katherine Heigl, Sandra Oh, and TR Knight.

I just wanted to put this quote in that I stole from one of the people responding to Shonda's blog that I thought was HILARIOUS:

"She's not dead. I know this because everything in this episode was Paint By Numbers. Meredith will have her It's A Wonderful Life moment with the Ghosts of Seattle Grace Past, and she'll wake up and go back to living lamely ever after with her Knight in Shining Whatever. Yawn."

Anyway, I am really disappointed in the Grey's watchers of America... they're all writing on the blog like OMG IF YOU KILL MEREDITH I WILL STOP WATCHING and I know that's exactly what Shonda was hoping for- she knows everyone is freaking out and this will bring them in more. I just hate where this show is going. It doesn't need to be like ER...

P.S. In another note, about all the interns dropping what they were doing to be with Meredith... I DID think it was stupid that they ALL got paged, but at the same time, I could see them all dropping what they were doing because she is one of their own and so she would get first priority. As for Addison being in the room... well, Sloan was doing brain surgery with Izzie, so I think they have really lost all touch with medical reality (not that they were really in touch to begin with...)

Tell that to a little show from the eighties called Valerie.

In all seriousness, though, she ain't gonna die. It would be awesome if she did, though.

Last night's episode was just crazy.

Meredith just can't die. If she does, I will rebel. It's like when The O.C. killed off Mischa/Marissa. Everybody stopped watching, & I think the show is ending this month, am I wrong? I can't deal with a show just called "Anatomy."

When Alex had to deal with all the families, I was in tears. It was just so sad. I couldn't help it. He was just trying to help all those people. True, those people don't even know what's happened w/ their families! There was one part where I laughed when he was at the desk, & people were just like going mad. I don't really remember it. I like some Alex showing a little bit of his heart.

George, who I wish had a bigger part in this 3 episode arc-thing, was so...I don't have the words. It was weird seeing him & Alex talk about the dead people, whereas, once they were fighting because Alex gave him syphilis. I liked it. I love sensitive George re: Grey's Anatomy I love how he finally found the boy. & The funny part where he wwas talking to Callie, & he was like "I can't kiss you right now, but tonight..." Man that was cute.

I was so proud of Izzie when she helped the guy under the car (Vince?)! She was such a rockstar. She finally gets to do something around Seattle Grace. Her "I believe" speech was such an Izzie move. It was cute, but semi-believable. I couldn't help but think about Spring Awakening throughout her speech. When she was telling George that marrying Callie was a mistake, it kinda hurt. I like George & Callie O'Malley. George look like it was about to start bawling. That whole little scene thing was a nice intern bonding (minus Meredith).

It was weird not seeing Cristina do some action-like medical stuff. That was a weird simile when she was talking about the dead corpse & all.

Derek was so awesome by going into the water & getting Meredith. It was so depressing to see him so vulnerable like that. It was nice seeing all the attendings trying to help Meredith.

Can't wait til next week!

alright, i just read your post CJR.

i agreed with pretty much everything you're saying.

when i have more time, i'll try to redeem myself moreso.

a thought that crossed my mind though, was that with this episode (and this whole 3-episode series) being so intense and all... my gosh, what is the season finale going to be like?! phew!

... i think i need to watch this again.

picturetaker9211, I basically agree 100% with everything you said :)

I think I'm one of few people who DID like Izzie's speech (and yes, it was SO spring awakening! "I believe, I believe, oh I believe" *g*)

And I'm REALLY not going to be able to handle Derek and Cristina's reactions if Meredith dies. SHE CANNOT. Derek loves her too much (seriously, I'm not ready for this "performance of his career" that supposedly coming up. NOT.READY.) and she's Cristinas person!! she can't. It's not even that I love her all that much as a character, but its having to watch everyone ELSE'S reactions that makes it not ok.

And the scenes with Alex really, really killed me. You could tell he fealt so incredibly terrible for all those people, and just had no idea how to handle it all. I would have been exactly the same in that situation.

And izzie. MAJOR rockstar. So awesome :P

Has anyone figured out why Meredith drowned in the first place? Was she trying to commit suicide? Was she just in shock?

^well, here's my theory.

I dont think it was complete suicide, definitely not. Remember, this is Seattle during the winter. The water is probably FREEZING, and when water is that cold your muscles freeze up very quickly. When your muscles freeze, you cant even doggie paddle or tred the water, so you DO drown. It's perfectly realistic that she would have drown before anyone found her

However, I also got the impression that she proobably wasn't trying her absolute hardest to get out. I dont think she was like "I'm going to commit suicide"- but I think there was definitely a lack of will to live to an extent. It seemed like she gave up a little bit.

But that said, the coldness of the water still would definitely have had something to do with it

The very first thing my Mom said after the episode aired Thursday night was "That was a weak episode." And I couldn't agree more with her.

I realize that the storyline is a three-parter, and that the second episode of a three-parter story arc is usually weak, but COME ON. So predictable- yes, Derek would be the one to save Meredith. Yes, Izzie would be successful with the drill. Yes, George would find the little boy.

A few moments were touching, however. Alex saying that he'd notice if Addison was missing almost made me cry- I LOVE this couple, and to see Alex's human side, both through Addison and dealing with the families and the pregnant woman, is a breath of fresh air.

And call me crazy or whatever the heck ya want to, but Meredith isn't gonna die. I'm only speculating, but if they're going to kill someone off, it has to be somebody no one would think of in a million years. I mean they can't kill off McDreamy (there'd be riots), or any one of the interns...Again, only speculating...but what if they killed off Ellis Grey?

Anothing funny thing: After Izzie drilled the holes in the man's head the chief says "OK, now get them to come get the car off of him." Or something to that effect. Well, if she could do that, she wouldn't have to drill his head open would she?

I just re-watched the episode and, despite all inconsistencies and drama, it was definitely better the second time around.

Shonda wrote this on her blog, I think...something about how everything in Grey's repeats itself. Like how last season, Derek says to Meredith, "You were like coming up for fresh air. It was like I was drowning and you saved me." How's that for coincidence/foreshadowing!

I love Addison's character. She starts out as this evil adulterous bitch, and you're SUPPOSED to hate her, cause you know you should feel bad for Meredith and whatever, but Addison is just so cool. I'd say her and Izzie are my two favorite characters on the show.

Speaking of Izzie...her whole "I believe" speech was just dumb. As she was talking I remember thinking "OMG, just stop now...quit while you're ahead..." Haha, because seriously, it was just the wrong place and the wrong time for her to be saying those things. And it was also too like, after-school special for me. Although, I can see why she'd be all optimistic and uplifting...she had this huge rush of confidence and energy from saving that guy's life and getting off probation. And plus, it's Izzie...she's crazy (I mean, I love her but she's crazy). She WOULD say something like that.

Wow, I'm typing a novel here. But one more thing...even though Meredith can be really annoying/whiny/self-centered/immature...I still don't want her to DIE. She can't be perfect, human beings aren't perfect. Everybody has that type of friend, the one who is really flawed but you love them despite the flaws. Maybe it's just me, but that's how I feel about Meredith. (Not that she's my friend, that she's flawed, LOL). I would be really annoyed if they killed her off, it would just mess everything up.

I agree with a lot of what you said, CJR.

In my opinion, this episode was very predictable. Not to mention, rather cheesy. Hopefully after the 3 part episodes are over Grey's will go back to "normal".

Meredith is NOT going to die. She's the main character of the show. Ellen Pompeo has signed on for several more seasons. It's very doubtful that she will die. Plus, think of all the Meredith fans out there that would stop watching the show. Shonda isn't stupid, she won't kill off the main character.

I've been having lots of mixed feelings about Izzie lately. I was so happy for her when she successfully drilled the holes into that man's head. And her whole conversation with Christina was really fun. It was the speech to George at the end that really bothered me. Yes, George's marriage was incredibly impulsive, but as a friend I would think Izzie would want her best friend to be happy; even if it's only for a short while. I think a lot of Izzie's actions lately have been selfish, especially where George is concerned. Back in Season 2 George was "the lonely one", and now since Denny died and George met Callie, Izzie has become the lonely one. I'm sorry that's how it has to be, but I really wish she could just try to support George when he needs it. George was always there for her when she needed him, even when she was doing something he didn't agree with (ie: cutting the L-Vad wire). She could at least give him that same sort of support.
But that's just my $0.02.

Am I the only one here who doesn't like the idea of a Addy/Alex relationship?

Is it sad that I am like... highly emotionally invested in this show? It is ridiculous. This is how I was with last season's finale too (OH, speaking of that, gah Denny is so fine and I am SO happy he's making a reappearance :P). I'm literally sitting here, days after watching the episode, worrying. About completely fictional characters!! Damn this show for being so good. That kind of proves how strong this show really is I think- that even though it WAS a little bit predictable, and maybe even sappy at some points, the characters have just been developed so well and the acting is so good that you really DO feel for them. Well, I do at least. Like I said before, its not even so much that I love Meredith. She's not one of my fav characters. But Derek and Cristina and Izzie are and they're the ones that would be most effected, obviosuly (well, Derek and Cristina at least). I'm sure she WILL survive, but its just... still really stressfull. haha.
