I just found out. He was the first man to make me laugh.

We were in the Manhattan restaurant where I spent half my youth, La Scala. It was probably 1969. Harvey Korman was having dinner with his wife at the table across from us. (It was a tiny place.) My family was awestruck, but we didn't say anything because, well, my family just didn't do that. But Mr. Korman started chatting with us, and we were THRILLED. He loved children.
Then he invited my little sister to sit at the table with him and his wife for dinner. My sister was about 2, I think. (My brothers and I were so jealous!) Mr. Korman was utterly warm and kind and, yes, funny. He was also a real gentleman.
My brothers, sister and I have always remembered this experience fondly. As soon as I saw this thread, I emailed my siblings, who were so saddened by the news.
I just wanted to share this story with everyone because he left such an indelible imprint on our lives, as an actor and as a human being.

He was one of the greats. His "Mother Marcus" on The Carol Burnett Show never failed to make me howl. I remember him playing that character in one of the "As The Stomach Turns" skits and cracking Ms. Burnett up, who rarely broke.
God rest his brilliantly funny soul.
Lovely story, Miss Pennywise. Thanks for sharing it with us.

This has been a tough week. Where would my laughs have come from if not for Laugh-In and The Carol Burnett Show. My appreciation of comedy can be partially and directly linked back to Dick Martin and Harvey Korman. And further shaped in later years by Tootsie. I laughed my way through my formative years with these talented men, and they will be sorely missed.
That was a beautiful touching story Miss Pennywise, by the way.

He was my favorite on Carol Burnett- I always thought he was funnier than Tim Conway. I also loved him in "High Anxiety" and "History of the World, Part One" pure brillance. He will be missed...

Miss Penny, I am not at all surprised that Harvey was such a sweet warm man in real life but was happy to hear it!
Does anyone remember when he was on The Munsters? Very funny.

I think he played a psychiatrist on the Munsters. Some kind of "analyzing doctor," as I recall. It's bee a LONG time.
Miss Penny---that was a wonderful story. Thanks for sharing it with us.

And he was the voice of that space thing on The Flintstones, wasn't he? The Great something-or-other.

He may have been on a couple of times. The time I'm thinking of is when a magazine was doing a story on the average american family and The Munsters were chosen! Harvey and another guy were a reporter and photographer who were staying in the house with them overnight to do the story.

Gazoo has gone back to his home planet...
Hedley LaMarr has gone to rest with...Hedy LaMarr...
Thank you Harvey Korman. You were a huge part of my childhood.

His scenes with Nurse Diesel are the work of pure genius.

Although when I was a kid I kept confusing him with Harvey Keitel. I thought the Bad Lieutenant was the voice of Gazzoo.

I met Harvey Korman many years ago. He was an absolute rude and ignorant man. To this day I never held that against him due to all the comedy he gave us. His comedic brilliance will be missed by me. RIP

This thread (and another email chain some friends of mine had going this afternoon) is like Mary Tyler Moore's funeral of Chuckles the Clown...every time I start to get sad, I remember something he did, and I bust out laughing.
