And that's all for today!
Just a small correction:
"Ani Ohev Otcha" is I love you if a guy is saying it to a guy.
"Ani Ohev Otach" is I love you if a guy is saying it to a girl.
"Ani Ohevet Otcha" is girl to a guy
"Ani Ohevet Otach" is girl to a girl

Just a small niggle- "slicha" is closer to "excuse me." If you want to say "I'm sorry," you say "Ani mitzta'er" (if you're a guy) or "Ani mitza'eret" (if you're a girl."

Goyim means nation ( other that Isreal)
Eretz is land or country
WOW! People!!! You know better then me!!! hahahahaha
I've been taking Hebrew for 10 years, so I'll have a go at this.
Mitztaer-bother
Tzavar-neck (may be Aramaic)
Shirah-song
Mezameret-singer
Lehatzig-to act
Meshugah/metoraph-insane
When I was little, I learned the hebrew alphabet from my Barney Live tape. Unfortunately, I can't say it without singing the song at the same time. Damn you PBS...damn you.

I suggest you stay away from goyim; it's considered derogatory.
Mezameret, or zamaret, is a female singer, I think, which would make mezamer or zamar a male singer. I'm going by instinct here; I could be wrong.
And "sheket bevakasha" is the refrain of every Hebrew school teacher in existence, I think. Not that I went to Hebrew school. I just work in one. :)
Sorry about that little error! Here's a few more:
Sod-secret
Sheurim-bathroom
Im-can be with or if
Mephursam-famous
Sheurim - Isn't that work? I always had "Sheurei Bayit" - Homework.
For the bathroom, I also, "Bevakasha, Ani Tzricha Lalechet LeSheeruitim"
And yes, "Sheket Bevakasha" is my phrase when I teach Hebrew - it's all I say sometimes. I'd say "Sh'tok" but I think that's more like "Shut Up!" and I don't want to say that.
So, to my advanced Hebrew speaking friends, "Ani Ochevet Otam!"
wow, i feel like i'm at school.
Bait shemoosh is what i larned fer bathrm
glad u got the teach ref re scheket!
Not so sure re the word goy being derog- in Yiddish yes but hebrew?
Goy l' goy means nation to nation- not sure there is another way of saying it.

I'm pretty sure goy means the same thing in Hebrew or Yiddish- it comes from Yiddish. A word that was previously pointed out, meshugah, is another example of a Yiddish word that's part of Hebrew now.
Let's see...what can I add to this thread?
I have a headache = Yesh li ke'ev rosh.
I've been told that the word goyim means "cattle." Where did the Jew haters that shouted this out at me in a financial chat get this? I have always thought goyim was anyone who wasn't Jewish. Cattle?
Regarding "Goyim" I don't know. But I always think of it in two ways. First, the Yiddish version, which can be used derogatorively, and second, the Hebrew, with which proper translation means "a non-jewish nation" and that's it!
Sabre, I also learned "Beit Sheemoosh", but it translates directly as "Janitor's House/Closet", and I always felt iffy about saying that.

I don't have any problem with using beit shimush, but I'm still uncomfortable with goy. I thought "shimush" meant "use." But then again, I can't recall the word for janitor right now, so it's quite likely you're right, shira.
Thirdrowcenter, I don't think goy means cattle. I'm pretty sure it comes from the Old Testament and is used to describe members of the non-Jewish nations. But like other words that were formerly inoffensive- Negro comes to mind- goy has become kind of insulting.
Sheemush come from the same root letters "Shin. Mem. Shin" To use is "LeHishTaMesh" - I don't like HitPael Grammar.
And "Goyim" is in the Torah. Also, a popular song "Lo Yisa Goy" (from Tehilim, I think)

When learning another language, it's often best to start with learning the alphebet.
Here is a good website to learn the letters: http://www.njop.org/jsAlephbet/sound_main.html. Also, be reminded that Hebrew is read from right to left, the oppisiste way we read English. So, thus- when reading the alphebet off this site. You start at the top right with teh Aleph.
And for starters numbers 1-10. ah'at, shtayim, shalosh, arba, h'amesh, shesh, sheva, shmone, tesha, esser
(that is in the feminine form)
In the masculine form it is: eh'ad, shnyim, shlosha, arba'a, h'amisha, shisha, shiv'a, shmona, tish'a, assara

*raises hand* I went to Hebrew school!! But, only till I was in 5th grade cause then I started having school and social issues. I've never had my Bat-Mitzvah although sometimes I wish I did but I don't think I would have it as an adult.
I remember how all the neighbors used to car pool on Hebrew school days...and then after Hebrew school we would usually go to McDoanlds next door to the synogogue and get a nice kosher dinner! LOL.
I remember 1 of my teachers...Mrs. Klein. For some reason I thought she died years and years ago and when I went to synogogue recently for the holidays, my mom says to me "Rebecca! Look who I found! Do you remember her?" And I answer..."She looks like Mrs. Klein but..." and before I finished my sentence my mom says "It is!!" I was like...."ummm...oh-hi" It was really weird, I could almost remember hearing that she died.
*raises hand again*
Hebrew Day School.
K-8: 2-3 hours/school day
High School: 3-6 hours/week, but also in a day school, so constant exposure
And then for college, I teach Hebrew school, which keeps me fairly fresh.
There's just no escaping the language - but I love it.
For some reason, I just got a song stuck in my head...who knows it?
"Eyzeh kef she'yesh hamon haverim. hamon haverim bechol minei tzva'im. shchorim, ktoomin, hoomim oolevanim...." (I think I got the words right!)
I have my solo from choir stuck in my head.
