Asians really tend to get into American pop culture for some reason--if you watch much Showtime at the Apollo, you'll remember some of the AMAZING Asian pop-lockers and step groups. And the Asian tour of Grease has been running since Heck was a pup.

lildogs, that's true, but this article is actually about hiphop artists borrowing from Asian culture, not the other way around. The Fugees do this, as well as, of course, Wu Tang.
do they indulge in honor kilings as well?
Alot of hip hop is dance music too...
But it's not "real dance music", which was invented in the UK and simply never caught on in the States, which is why nobody here buys Madonna CDs.
LOL matt. You know that "real" dance music is way straighter that those tired old 'mos in hip hop.
Wasn't hip-hop big in like, the 90s?
Of course as Erykah Badu would say, they have no concept of time so to them I suppose they're still relevant.
When DID Madonna's records stop being touted in the States? And played on the radio? Even MTV and VH1 won't play her videos. Pop culture in this country is so BORING! It's worse now than it was in the late seventies! Is America punishing itself for electing Bush for eight years?
They stopped being touted when they started to suck. That would be everything after Ray Of Light.
It's more than that, Taz. Don't be flip.
Seriously. Why does everything have to sound the same? For the longest time I thought it was because I was getting older, but no, when the White Stripes and Madonna can't get radio airplay something is WRONG.
I was being totally sincere. Madonna hasn't made a good cd in years. And The Strips get play on alternative radio.
Top 40 today is all R&B. That's what's selling the most singles these days.
Rock radio is flourishing (IMO)
American Idol.
But she's put out good singles..."Music", "Tell Me", and "Hung Up" were all as brilliant as anything she's done.
Yea but they were dance-oriented. They got tons of club play. But dance music doesn't really fit into the top 40 format.
Her new single however (according to Billboard) is doing very well and has indeed charted high.
Madge strikes back
Madge loves the gays. I wonder what she thinks of rappers on the DL....hmmm....

Madonna's 4 minutes single gets tons of play on z100. And all I hear on Krock is old Aerosmith these days.
you want to talk about a genre that seems to be dying. ROCK! just kidding, but you'd think so listening to Krock.
Well, I like dancing to hip hop--esp Latin hip hop--there was an awesome radio station in Houston.

When I'm in the mood for Pop I listen to the BBC. It's available on Sirius and it's just a blast. A great mix, all fun. Reminds me of listening to top 40 in the 70's.

Wendy Williams has been desperately trying to out DL rappers for years on her radio show.
Who cares if someone is gay or straight? How does that change anything?
If someone is gay or straight - that tells you absolutely NOTHING about them....are they a good person, do they have a morals, are they a kind person......
have you ever heard rap or hip-hop neal? It just happens to be the most homophobic and downright pro gay violence "music" there is.
So yes, it make a BIG difference.
Yes, I've heard it and I think it's terrible. So, I don't listen to it. But, we have to remember it's a business.....a huge business that makes tens of millions of dollars.

So you're ok with all the virulent homophobia as long as it sells records?
No, of course not. I'm against discrimination of any kind. Rap and hip hop don't interest me. That's why I don't buy their records or listen to it.
So, if a rapper is gay or not, I could care less. Still doesn't change how I feel about the music, or who wrote it. Or, if the artist who is "rapping" the song is gay...who cares. How does that change anything?

Well, if someone is making a living off of gay bashing, I think it'd be pretty interesting to discover that they themselves are gay.
We're not talking about anyone here. I agree that it's no one's business where other people/celebrities are concerned.
But for those who spread the hate, it does matter and I bet a lot of people would be very curious to find out.
let's not generalize that all rap and hip hop is homophobic. There are some allies in the genre--missy elliot, kanye west, salt n pepa, queen latifah are just 4 who come to mind.
If you're going to talk about all forms of bashing.......hip hop always referring to gals as "hos" and bitches, too.
