Wickedrocks, I do disagree slightly that it was free of camp/ridiculousness. The family is basically allowed to function and the hostage takers are more like guidance counselors for the kids than scary bad guys.
Fair enough, but it seemed like the writers employed this idea not realizing how dumb/ridiculous it is. It just all took itself way too seriously for me.

Rocks, That is the often the root of camp! Something that takes itself so seriously that it ends up being funny/stupid/ridiculous instead of actually being serious and moving.
This certainly wasn't on the level of Valley of the Dolls or anything, but it was hard not to chuckle when they sat down for that big family dinner with the gunmen waling around the kitchen!

Fair enough! I guess I was looking for a bit more of a "winking/knowing" quality to its ridiculousness, much like THE BLACKLIST. That makes it fun to watch! It was just so damn dreary, serious, and uninvolving that I guess some of those "campy" aspects didn't even register to me.
I love Toni Collette so much; I wish the show was better just for her sake!

I got through the first 10 minutes or so last night and shut it off. This is almost the non bloody equivalent of torture-porn that does not hold my interest one bit and really makes me wonder why something like this is on TV.

Really, Jordan? I recorded it but haven't watched it yet. If it was that bad I may not even bother. I willing to cut it loose. I'm completely satisfied with my commitments to Sleepy Hollow, The Blacklist and Mom. I don't need another Monday night show.

The ratings dipped to a 1.5 for the second episode last night.
I watched it and I thought this episode was an improvement over the pilot in that it was SO ridiculous and stupid that it almost reminded me of watching Smash with incredulity.
If Rachel Shukert is looking for a new show to critique every week, this should be it. Lots of unintentional laughs and the plot has lost any sense of reason or believability it may have possessed.
Because the surgery has been delayed two weeks the hostage takers are forced to allow the family live their lives as usual(!)- but don't worry. If anyone tries to escape McDermott has Toni Collette surgically implant MICROCHIPS into the shoulders of the family so they can be tracked at all times!! The family now must go to school and work as if nothing is wrong!

I was so excited for this show, guys. Big Dylan and Toni fan. I just think it would have worked better as a TV movie (bring back those!) or a four-night miniseries. I don't think it can realistically go a whole season with this story, and that's with good ratings. And what would next season even be? Someone stealing the daughter's baby?

I feel like each episode is going to keep Hostages in holding pattern while we wait out the "two weeks" before the rescheduled surgery takes place. A lot of stuff happened, but nothing advanced the plot. You could completely skip this episode and watch next week without missing a beat.
The political scenes are very weak and have nothing on the intrigue of 24 or Scandal. It seems this isn't even a personal attack on this particular president, but merely some sort of wake up call for America. It's hard to even care what all the different motivations for the assassination attempt are.

The second episode was pretty damn laughable. I love when things have to have such forced exposition to explain the ways people are being tracked. "We've implanted devices in your phones, iPads, laptops and we can hear you EVER WHEN THEY'RE TURNED OFF!! Also microchips inside you."
The mistress scene was beyond stupid especially when she said they'd only been dating 2 months.
But I think the most ludicrous part was the instantaneous news footage quoting "a suicide note on her Facebook." Ya know, as most normal people do when they mistakenly inject someone with a nonlethal drug.

...I've been watching and I kind of like some of the twists and turns.
For me, the performances by Dylan and Toni are worth tuning in.
BUT, CBS has moved the Hostages finale up to January 6th.
It will be the 15th and final episode, airing from 9-11pm.
Am looking forward to seeing how they wrap it up.

I used to record Hostages and watch Blacklist live on Monday nights, but a few weeks ago I switched because I was more interested in the way the Hostages storyline was unfolding.
I'm sorry to see it end.

Ending tonight.
I'm watching to see how they wrap up all of the storylines.
I'm hoping for a happily-ever-after ending, but doubt I'll get it...
Toni Collette and Dylan McDermott have been fascinating to watch in this. I've enjoyed this 15-episode series more than I ever expected to.
