I was looking at the new "hotel finder" section on this board and as I went through the pages I realized that I've stayed at a number of different hotels over the years and I was wondering if that was the case with other people who don't live in the city. Do you stay at the same hotel every time or do you try a different one each time you visit?
Below are the hotels that I've stayed at. Some of them a number of times and some of them just once:
CASABLANCA HOTEL
COLLINGWOOD HOTEL (not sure if this hotel still exists)
COMFORT INN MIDTOWN
DAYS HOTEL (48th & 8th)
DOUBLETREE GUEST SUITES TIMES SQUARE NYC
GRAND HYATT NEW YORK
HELMSLEY MIDDLETOWNE HOTEL
HILTON NEW YORK
HILTON TIMES SQUARE
MARRIOTT MARQUIS NYC
MILFORD PLAZA
MILLENNIUM BROADWAY HOTEL NEW YORK
PARAMOUNT (years ago when it was the Century Paramount)
RENAISSANCE NEW YORK HOTEL TIMES SQUARE
ROYALTON
SHERATON MANHATTAN HOTEL
THE HELMSLEY PARK LANE
THE PIERRE
THE PLAZA HOTEL
THE TIME HOTEL
WASHINGTON JEFFERSON HOTEL
Stay at the Waldorf.
We usually stay at the Waldorf...but we've stayed at the Roosevelt, Hilton, Marriott Marquis, the Plaza, and when I went with my school we stayed at a crappy hotel called Wellington... the elevators were broken when we were there.
I know of the glory days of the Waldorf but don't know anyone who has stayed there recently. I've never even considered staying there and I'm a bit curious as to how it's held up after all of these years.
I stayed at the Grand Union Hotel with my class like week ago. My god that was FUNNY AS HELL. IT wasnt bad but everythign was a comeplete joke, MY favourite part is the one elevator for the whole hotel, Lukily I found out the secret for it. If you press the close button the whole way up, evern if someone calls the elevator it skips the floor.
Oh god. its hillarious, But nothing too bad with it.

I only stay at either the Edison or the Belvedere - neither of which seem to be on your list.
Oh! We've stayed at the Edison before too! I liked that place.

I always liked the Edison - but now even more so since the complete renovation.
I stayed at the Millennium and absolutely loved it.

Gosh, money would be nice...how do you people afford to stay at these hotels?
haha, I don't afford it, my parents do.

Well, New York is a very expensive city. I've travelled to many locations and hotel prices in NYC are among the highest anywhere. London's hotel prices are pretty steep as well. Sometimes there are some good deals but for the most part it's all part of what theatre lovers, who don't live in the city, have to deal with. Of course it was much easier when I did live in New York but that was quite some time ago.
I feel it's also another reason why some people who travel to New York just to see shows get more pissed when a performer is out or if a show is bad because not only do they feel that they have wasted their time or not gotten to see who they wanted to but they've spent a lot of money on a hotel and the chances of getting back to either see the person you wanted to see or to see another show is pretty slim, until the next time you visit.
My Gosh, Theater Diva, you are from a rich family! I try to find the best deal with AOL travel, and yet be close to the theater district. I've stayed economically at the Milford Plaza (twice) and last June discovered a delightful European style hotel, the Da Vinci, on W. 56th Street. A great bargain, if I do say so myself, and a lovely place to stay if a hotel like the Waldorf or the Plaza are three or four times more than you can afford.

I stayed at the Westin Times Square a couple years ago... it was really nice.
you beat me to it...I love the Westin.
I love the Sofitel, but for the love of heaven stay away from the Shorham (what a pit!)

We either stay at the Righa, Michaelangelo or Roosevelt. Has anyone stayed at The Muse? We've been curious about that hotel.
It's been awhile but the only place to stay is "The Four Seasons New York" such a great hotel.

I've stayed at the Marriot Marquis (back about 8 years ago), The Radisson (gag me) in March and the W Hotel in Times Square in July. The W was VERY nice, but a little bit...expensive, believe it or not.
I have stayed exclusively at the Edison until my trip in November. This time I stayed at Hotel QT and absolutely loved it.
My wife and I are going to be in the city again this January and had our travel agent book us at QT again. It's in Times Square on 45th - perfect location.
Starbucks across the street, nice Deli on the block, fantastic shower with Neutrogena products - good times.
On my first trip, I stayed at the Mayfair, which is practically across the street from The Ambassador (Chicago). It's tiny, and I mean TINY, but it's reasonable and clean.
Next, I stayed at the Crowne Plaza Times Square. A lot more expensive but the service and amenities are much better too. Actually, the Mayfair has no amenities.
Next, I stayed at the Millenium Times Square, also very nice.
Then a couple of weeks ago, the only reasonable hotel I could find was the Holiday Inn - Midtown. It was ok, but the service wasn't great and it's a little too far from the theater district to walk, especially in winter.
I'd recommend either the Crowne or the Millenium, unless you're on a tight budget.
My mom did a Priceline search and ended up with the Millennium. That's how we stayed there.
Yeah, the Millennium was a nice hotel and luckily I did not have to pay for it either time that I stayed there but do I understand that it could be a little pricey.
